Default Z axis scale info needed

Some of the buttons on this milling machine quill scale don't seem to do anything so I'll have to pull it apart to clean the switches.
That's easy, but what do the buttons do ?
What is up and down for ?

    Hi Phaser,

They are used to set the depth ! Touch off on the work, zero the scale then set the value for the depth you want. Move the quill until you get back to zero. A bit of a faff in my opinion. All I do with mine is touch off and zero, then drill to a value and stop.
    Best Regards:
