My Metabo grinder, model "EW E 9123 S Quick" has slow-start, but no braking. Slightly tempted to open it up and have a look, but I suspect this is a cheaper model than your find, and is missing that feature?

    P.S. Was at Bunnings today, trying to decide what type of cordless tools to invest in. The Bosch salesman was there. Their Bosch Blue angle grinders have sensors to brake if;
    1. the grinder kicks back, or
    2. if it falls off a table et c

    Amazing idea

The metabo grinders and their fast brake feature is only really seen in the high end models. Same as the paddle switch. Many these days also have a feature which is restart protection- so it doesn't fire up if you plug it in when it was powered off at the wall with the switch on (ie plug pulled out situation, that may lead to a run-away while sitting on a bench)

So the model I got is probably a 2015-2020 model, or thereabouts. Also one that is prime pickings when the safety nazi's hold the company cheque book.
As far as I've worked out, the heirachy of grinders int he metabo range at least, are the cheap chinese made models, usually in the 1-200 dollar range, then the german made models which have the beefed up motor (marathon motors) and all the other fruit like fast brakes, auto-balancing assembluies to reduce vibration (plus vibration resisting handles), restart protection, paddle triggers, and the kickback clutch. Most of my grinders are hitachi. I own a few metabos, but the chinese ones.

I like metabo. If you are out there metabo, willing to talk sponsorships. I'll even get an instergram and you can call me your influencer? Call me maybe.

Quick update to the project log:

    1) Sievert blow torch/ soldering iron
Did a tear down on this bad-boy. going to bring it back up to scratch with a bit of a buff-up and renew seals etc. Not sure of vintage, but probably anywhere from the 50's to 70's.

    2) File sharpening - Got given a heap of old files. Some were FUBAR, others were able to be brought back to life. Quick dip in HCL, rinse, and new golf ball handles. Best use of a golf ball IMO. And that includes their intended us. Spiteful game.

    3) Did a liquid resto on a few old pipe wrenches. A 24" record, and a 'Deluxe' 18". I don't use them often, but when I do, they are darn handy. A bloke really does mean business when one of these are used in anger.

    4) Shed tunes upgraded with bluetooth speaker and a spotify subscription. Can recommend! Great for the relaxation during shed time.

    5) Built another BBQ smoker. Just because. This one is modular and breaks down into 11 or so pieces, and easily transported.

    6) Shed storage - 1200x600x1850 shelving unit
Built this out of a length of 50x50x5 Angle and some 50x3 flat bar. Shelf frames are 25x25x3 SHS. Uses a full sheet of 12mm ply giving 4x 1200x600 shelves. I looked at buying something from bunnings, but nothing at the price point I wanted to pay stacked up as strong enough. Can be fully dismantled, which is a positive.
I keep the air compressor and plasma on the bottom, sortimo boxes above that, spray cans up higher, and bulky boxes of rarely used stuff up high (laser level, grease gun, pelican boxes etc).

    7) I needed a home for both of my bench grinders. Since the shed is small, the grinders just make a mess inside, so I had the idea of door mounting them. This way all the schmoo stays outside.
Tigged up a bracket out of some scrap angle that will take the footprint of both grinders. The door is a solid core, with 3x 100mm hinges... so strong enough.

    8) Latest project on the boil is a Pan brake. Found some plans on here for the SIMSO pan brake, working my way thru that. I have the steel and welding situation sorted, but will need to outsource the machining. Stay tuned.
