    Default Jabsco Pumps.

Hi guys, I have an old Parkanson Power Hacksaw with a Jabsco Impeller pump for the coolant supply and the V belt keeps stuffing up. It is a major job to clean and readjust the pump as the belt stretches or wears. I am thinking of making a new drive using a toothed belt. If so the pump will have to spin a lot faster. I have searched the Net and cannot find any reference to how fast they can be run. Does anyone have any ideas? All help will be appreciated.
    Rgds,

Here is a link to a Fynspray impeller pump, I think they are similar in operation.

I worked for a company 30 years ago and we sold Fynspray pumps.

From what I read they the ball bearing model goes to 2400 RPM and the plain bearing model goes to 1750rpm

What speed is it spinning at now?
I ran a plain shaft, rubber impelled Jacobs for about 10 years on my parts washer. Changed a few impellers but don`t remember changing the belt. It was spinning at about 300-400 rpm.

    Hi Crocky,

I'd check and make sure that the bearings are not tight ! They can wear and get tight without seizing up. That will cause belt wear, also you could fit an elastic type belt like they used to use on twin tub washing machines. They used to run for years until they stretched and slipped.

I can vouch for using an elastic belt as Baron suggests. I've also got a Parkanson PH and that's what I've got on mine.
I used the red hollow poly belt that has a barbed aluminium joiner. Works well.

I have no idea what has gone wrong with the multi quote, but it will only let me do 3 at a time,
BTS, It is only doing about 70 RPM, so I can now really step it up, I will just add a relief bleed valve for the increased flow.

Baron J, I only replaced the impeller about 9 months ago, the pump was spinning OK then.

Baron and Steve, I will go to my supplier and check out if he has that material.

For everyone, Dad used to have no end of problems with the belt slipping as the oil from the main shaft used to leak through to the pulleys and get onto the belt. About 2 years ago, I bought an oil seal to suit the main shaft, stripped the machine right down and made a counterbore to insert the oil seal in the housing, loctite'd it in and it has performed faultlessly since, until the impeller died of old age.
    Thanks again,
    Rgds,
    Crocy.

Crocy, if let me know roughly the length you need - I might be able to save you a couple of dollars.

Dad ran one on direct drive from 1440 rpm motor for eons before he sold it. Just used a bit of heavy duty hose and couple hose clamps to act as a coupling.

Must have been one of those subconscious things but I was looking through some boxes of stuff for something unrelated and came across these. Thought I had given most away but apparently not.

I need to go through and make a list of what I have got.
