Piper #2 tapping chuck
Making a fixture plate for the RT. Going to drill around m12 holes.
The piper doez not appear to be auto reversing and i cant see any way of controlling torque
Do I need any special tap?
What else should I know ....other than sticking up the spindle and start threading?

taps
I think the spiral type taps are more suited.
twice as fast sort of makes seance because its not cutting.

I have a M12 spiral tap you can borrow. You should not use a straight flute tap as there is a risk it will jam with the chips in the flutes.
Use is simple - mount it in the drill press and use it as you would a drill. When you are at depth, release the handle and this should put the tapping head in reverse, where it will back out of the hole.
And repeat...

Tks Michael...but when a mate of mine retired he gave me 2 new m12 gun taps, along with some other used and new taps...i think these are suitable are they not?

Is allright to do in the mill on lowest speed ....would torque be too high?
Or would DP on low vfd speed be better
Oh, the plate is steel and is 16mm thick...any problems?
