Better in a drill press - the quill is the important part. But - an M12 tap is a sturdy beast. Perhaps try it in a soft material (AL?) and see how it goes.

Used the tapping chuck with 10mm spiral flute tap.
The waldown has a VSD so I started off slow.
motor kept stalling.....so changed pulley ratio to get extra torque with less spindle rpm.
This tapping chuck is certainly going to get used more often...it worked a treat....

Hardest part was tapping all the holes...after all i had to move the table 50mm in x&y axis for every hole. Gee these tapping chucks are bloody great!!!!.

Hi Guys,
I have a small 1/4" inch capacity "Archer" tapping chuck that I managed to jam and broke one of the internal gear shafts. Its been hidden in a box for a good number of years. I'll have to dig it out and repair it. I gave away its big brother with a 3 MT arbour and 5/8" capacity, having never used it. I had a die holder for the big one, but I might have given that away as well.Best Regards:
Baron J.
