You could only hope they have improved their quality control. Try a forum search on the problems of some of these machines.

This was true ,even as recent as a couple of years back and I myself commented in forum posts, against them. The main problem was with the turning of the main pulley which was not concentric to the bore.

I am told it has been rectified after a few bums were kicked and names taken.

I never seem to see old second hand ones come up.

I believe this is because they last forever and no sensible sane owner would want to let go.They seem good enough to sell in the USA.

    Multitool fan here.
Agree it's one of the most commonly use bits of kit mainly for burr removal.

My multitool is on a 3P GMF 1HP grinder but I still find I can slow it down when tackling larger pieces. Fortunately I have a 3P 3HP WW sander on a VFD that I use with Zr belts mainly for MW for the big stuff.

Just a quick question, I've only seen pictures of multi tools on the RH end of bench grinders. Can they be fitted to the left hand end of a grinder as you face it??

    hpa1,
I would say emphatically not.. The platen - the steel pad Under the belt would be on the bottom if the fabricated unit was mounted on the left..

The arm with the small roller is set up as a right hand unit. The platen, bolts to a bracket welded to the top of the arm.It could be modified, I suppose, but I would regard that as too fiddly.

Secondly the sanding disc grinding table is a right handed layout and simply would.nt fit .

Its a zinc pressure casting so if you wanted a left hand version you would need to make one. Not impossible but again fiddly.

I have never seen a Multi tool set up as a left hand unit .They have been ALWAYS on the right of the grinder.

Have a look at a Utube Multitool assembly video and you shall see the problem.

    Sorry!

Just having a quick look you should be able to. The arm mounting bolds are central to the shaft so 180 deg is Ok. The table attachment will be upside down so that is out and the aligning arm will be on the outside and might mess with the table as well.

I am another 20+ year user and would be lost without it. l would like to build a 3-4 hp 4" wide one like I used in a fab shop. You could really lean into that sucker. Only thing is it hurt like hell when a brand new belt let go and hit me in the face.

Bit the bullet today and picked up a multitool and it will be fitted to an 8" grinder. Thanks for all the input fellas, didnt think a belt sander / linisher would be such a hard item to make a decision on

Even if it's simple we can make it extra complicated for you.
