Default Quick Change Tool Post for Hercus 260

seems that I cannot find the right post to find the right recommendation

I am looking to buy the right QCTP for my Hercus 260 - i have two links but not sure which to get -
one is about $100 cheaper (give or take).

I checked as much as I could but cannot determine whether either of these would fit the Hercus 260, because, as far as I understand it is, that the Hercus 260 has a springloaded pin and a bolt to hold the tool post.

I am asking whether anyone could let me know whether either or both of the toolposts in those two links would work, or, what you have bought and installed as a QCTP on your Hercus 260.

Thank you so much in advance

    Just,

There are no links to toolposts in your post which might be the reason for a lack of replies. A number of forum members have 260s fitted with QCTPs. This thread from the Hercus forum may be of interest if you haven't yet viewed it - https://metalworkforums.com/f189/t20...60#post1951260

My 260 uses this 250-100 toolpost.
A new mounting stud and sleeve were made to fit it.
The spring loaded indexing plunger was removed by tapping out from underneath, after removing the gib strip for access.
There's a brass cap filling the space.

Hi - where did you get this from and where, or how, did you make or get the bolt? what kind of tools are you using? HSS ? other?

I can't remember where the toolpost came from. There are plenty of sellers of Chinese versions of US style toolposts.
Hint: Don't get the very cheapest of them (unless you know they are the same as dearer ones), as I did have some problems with interchangeability of toolholders.

I used a screwcutting lathe to make the stud, sleeve and brass cap - a Hercus 260.

Mostly I use HSS cutting bits, but have also some carbide.

I would just get the cheaper one, they are a reputable seller. With the left over $$$ maybe get some extra tool holders as you will run out soon enough.

sure - I consider it - would you have any pics of the toolholder on your hercus 260? Could you also describe any changes /modifications you had to do to make this QCTP fit on the Hercus 260 please? I am asking because I found a couple on ebay and they said it woul dfit a lathe with a swing upto 12" BUT it would require "modification" and I am not sure what they mean by "modification" -

    cheers

Has your compound slide have a tee slot or stud to hold the tool post now.

The modifications needed to fit an AXA QCTP to your Hercus 260 lathe would amount to making or adapting a new mounting stud (and maybe sleeve) for the QCTP.
Here are the drawings I made to fit an AXA QCTP to my AL320G lathe. Nadroj spelled it out and showed a photo of what he had to do to fit an OXA QCTP to his Hercus.
The OXA QCTP is rated for lathes up to 8" swing so is a bit small for your Hercus 260 which has a 10" swing. You would be better off using the AXA QCTP.
It helps if you have access to another lathe to turn up the required parts while your lathe toolpost is dismantled, otherwise you need to take accurate measurements, reassemble your lathe toolpost, then accurately turn up the required parts before disassembling your toolpost again and fitting the new parts. It's a bit of a pain without another lathe, but it can be done.
M&G Productions gear is generally good quality. My AXA QCTP looks identical to the illustrations of what the are selling, even though I bought mine in the States. Most of my QCTP holders are from M&G and they are fine.

That is so super of you, thank you - I shall read the post a few more times to digest and understand it and also look at Nadroj's post.
    thanks again, much appreciated.
M&G Productions seem have an okay reputation here on the forum, I shall look into it a bit more closer.

    cheers

My "250-100" is equivalent to an AXA, I think.
Height of the main block is 2 1/4"

It's usually mounted to a slotted cross slide, which doesn't have a raised platform for the toolpost, unlike the standard unslotted slide.
Even though it's about 5/32" lower, the 250-100 toolpost seems ideal, so I wouldn't advise against its suitability for a 260.

My apologies nadroj. The numbers on your toolpost put me off. Your piston type toolpost is an AXA. I'm only familiar with the wedge type which have different numbers. I assume that the tool holders for your toolpost are 250-101, which are the standard AXA tool holders suitable for both types of AXA toolposts.
