    Default 4140 Suppliers Victoria

I am after some short lengths of 4140 for a project and have approached several steel merchants between Shepparton and the Northern Suburbs and either said no or have not got back to me. Has anyone found a good supplier in this general area.

I doubt you find any company in the entire country that will sell short lengths

    Yes and No,

Depending upon size required, you may be able to turn what you want from a medium carbon bolt. Some of them are 4140.

Check with you fastener shops/online catalogues.

I have some random stuff lying around what dimensions do you need. Have you considered just buying an entire bar?

I normally use vulcan (used to be interlloy) they'll sell any length within reason but have cut charges.

According to the rep I spoke to, Bare-Co pins for tractors are all 4140 with no further hardening.

Last time I was at Brighton Steel supplies a few months back they said they had 4140 and would cut to length - not sure what diameters they have though. Not much help to you in country Vic.

Thank you for the replies. I am after some 4" & 2" square bar and 2" round.. Handy to know about the bareco pins but I don't think they will work for this project.

Unlikely you will get 2" and 4" square bar in 4140 in anything but a full length if it is even available.

I know that interlloy do not carry anything but round 4140. Bohler have a good range of K245 in square which is another high carbon steel, not available in pre heat treat though, and 4" square is going to be $$$$$.
