    Default Quality rotary wire brush

My Multi Tool linisher had a wire brush mounted on the other end on the grinder motor.

The 200mm rotary crimped wire brush has come to the end of its life and was beginning to spit wire at me. Another good reason to wear an apron.

The brand was a 200mm diameter HIT made in Italy. I am not complaining, the brush has lasted well as I have used it a lot over 10 years.

A while back,I had tried a Josco 200mm brush but returned it straight away as it peppered me with wire from the moment I began to use it.

I tracked the HIT brand down to Blackwoods who have a branch, local here in Mackay. I was prepared to bite the bullet and pay that bit extra and wait a few days to get it.

Armed with a Blackwoods printout, I visited their shop to ID it I visited Blackwoods and was pleasantly surprised to find they had one on the shelf.

The second surprise that it was only 30 some dollars and in fact cheaper than the Josco brush I had returned. I think I shall return and buy a spare one to tuck away, just in case.

I have now fitted it and its great and I no longer have to feel or look like a porcupine.

It is nice to have a win once in a while.

I fitted a Josco to the side of mine, ended up having to take it off as it was way out of balance, even tried different positions to no avail, it's now in the shed somewhere???

Thanks for the info I may see if I can obtain one as well, Josco in my opinion are really hit and miss some items are good, yet you can buy exactly same item as a spare or backup an find it is absolute rubbish
and they don't seem to care so I no longer purchase their products

I have a Josco 200 x 25mm wire and and found it spit a lot of quills when new so I "conditioned" it, just held a piece of steel on it for few minutes. Then turned it around and did the same thing. It still chucks the odd wire - I've never found one that doesn't - I just don't trust any of them

I checked the Blackwoods on-line catalog and cannot find an HIT brand - they do have a range of sizes/widths of an SIT brand (made in EU) A 200mm costs $25.43, the other advantage is its 29 mm wide as compared to the Josco at Bunnings $30 which is only 19 mm wide. The Unbranded 200 mm wire wheel at H&F is 25 mm wide and costs $27.50.

I'm interested in the 200 mmSIT 36 mm wide as my next wheel.

The two 125mm Josco wire wheel I have for my angle grinders are like that but my 200mm wheel is nice and smooth.

We go through a 75mm cupbrush and twisted brush about every week and a half.
Use them for cleaning welds on the trailers. Would be nice to find ones that last a bit longer.
Anything bigger and we can't get in the corners, as it is some of the internal corners we can't clean properly.

To make up for my naming error, here is an application sheet from the SIT ( yes I have got it ,now ) Website.

    Totally agree with you Grahame.

SIT are excellent product. Have used them for many years. I have always got them from Blackwoods.

There used to be a guy who made many types locally (20 years ago) and they were good/heavy duty, but he's long gone. The cup brushes weren't even painted

    Cheers Rob

    But at least you tried.

I fitted this thing in the pic below, it vibrated everything off the bench. The problem seemed to sideways runout so i made a couple of flanges to hold it further from the centre in the hope that it would run true.
It was a bit better but i couldnt put up with the vibration so it went under the bench and some day i might put it on the 12" pedistal grinder if needed.
I put a josco on and it is sweet as a bun, it does not vibrate or lose wires, maybe it is the odd one out, nothing like you blokes have exprienced.
Does josco have differant price/quality wheel options or just luck of the draw?

    cheers, shed20191023_114146.jpg20191023_115833.jpg

Some sideways run out can usually be corrected for using two pairs of "wobble washers" which can be purchased or for MW folks are easily enough to make

    WobbleWashers.JPG

    see https://www.woodworkforums.com/f155/.../2#post2146795 for details
In that post I say the wobble washers made the runout better but the vibe slightly worse
    BUT
In follow up posts you can see how I improved the vibe as well.
The mobile phone Vibe app I'm using really helped to quantify and sort this out otherwise you are just guessing which is better or worse.
