It is a combo, but I have never used the mill.
The tool post can be fitted into the front or rear slot on the cross slide. There is far more room on the rear one when doing big stuff, and it is easier to see when turning internally.
I might look around for a 3/4 or 1 HP motor for it.

I looked up the specs for my lathe, and it is only 0.5HP, which seems a bit silly given that it can turn up to 360mm diameter.
I wonder if there was actually a sound reason for that, or if it was just a cost thing
You might be surprised ! My lathe is a Myford, and only has a half horse motor. I can easily cut a four inch diameter by 5/8"th inch dovetail taper with either of my two tools. True you can't dive in with deep cuts, particularly in steel.

Re: Your picture. Yes I didn't see the support under the cutter. Still I wouldn't have done it that way

My lathe stalls very easily. The motor, despite being 370 Watts, is physically very small, and is a split phase induction motor.
I used to have a Myford lathe about 20 years ago, and old ex school lathe, which had a capacitor attached to the motor casing, and was much larger motor physically, than my current one, which has no capacitor. If yours has a cap. it may well have a lot more torque than mine.
I also loose power by having the vee belt on the smallest pulley because it is very small to get the low speeds, so the belt is bending really tight radius. I might try one of those belts with notches on the inside,...supposedly more efficient.

    Hi Guys,

Yes the motor on my Myford is the original Brooks motor with the external capacitor.

Be careful with those corrugated V belts, I bought one and found that it had a bulge where it had been joined when made. I took it back and complained, no problem ! I ended up with my money back, because every belt that they had showed this bulge. When running it was like the belt got smaller at one spot causing a rhythmic thumping ! Definitely not good for the motor or the bearings.

Thanks for that info regarding the belt. I'll get one & try it, but if it is as yours was it'll go back to the supplier.
