    Default Looking for Servian content

    Hi all;

I have come into possession of a Servian drill press and as with all tools that fall into my hands, I can't help but research the company. There's not a lot of solid information out there beyond forum comments and speculation that I have found thus far. There are some mentions of photos from brochures on some sites but thanks to Photobucket and the inevitable vagaries of hosting photos on the internet almost all of the links I have found have been dead. I have gone through all the entries on Trove relating to Servian Machine Tools and have found the inception date of the company in 1948 and a few subsequent ads, and elsewhere an exhibition brochure from 1965 featuring a number of tools that they sold.

What I have found so far I have collated here:

    https://motofaction.org/tool-reviews...y-information/

Has anyone got any literature relating to the company or any further info they can provide me with?

I'm really interested in finding a catalogue from the years when they seemed to make some or all of their own stuff (40s, 50s) to compare with the stuff they showcased at the '65 show which seemed largely to be other brands. I'm also curious as to whether they started out badge engineering or whether it was mostly manufacturing in the beginning.

I too have a Servian drill press.
I restored it some years ago and described the progress here somewhere....

This is an advert for Servian Machine Tools from the 1944 Australasian Manufacturer Annual.
Many thanks to Bill (WCD) for the copy of this publication.
    Cheers,
    Greg.

Looks like I definitely have the start date wrong! Thankyou for that. Would you mind if I included that photo in the article?

Time to hit the books again then, this time from earlier dates...

OK, thanks to Dun's Gazette I have found what I think is the registration date of Servian Machine Tools (Sydney) - but the Victorian activities through Servian Machine Tools (Aust) seem to predate this. Updated the article. Still looking...

Wouldn't turn down an offer like that! If you have time that'd be great, thanks. If you see any reference to GMF in there please let me know as well, I have a similar page on that company.

I have a Servian power hacksaw, the name is cast into the side covers so i assume that it was made in oz by Servian.

Some pics of your drill would be gr8 m8.

    cheers, shed

Does sound pretty likely if it’s cast in, doesn’t it... any idea on age?

There will be photos.... many photos! It looks as though this drill will replace the Taiwanese floor drill I currently use, assuming there’s nothing too amiss once I get it back together.

I've always assumed that Servian were mainly marketers of Servian badged machine tools made by others rather than manufacturers, an early version of Vertex.

FWIW a couple of views of a Servian drill press, and under the bench lying on its side is a 2 1/4 ton Servian die punch.
