    Default KURODA Automatic Boring Head

So picked up a Kuroda boring head a few days ago. I was kinda excited as I had been looking for one for quit a while.

I have seen a few identical to the one I acquired, although mine has 2 different feed rate settings... 0.1mm & 0.2mm. Has anyone else here seen this style or have one as I have tried to find another the same but can't, seems it's a rarity.

Also have a look at it, looks like new!!

    Hi John,

A nice looking piece of kit ! Is it on a taper shaft ? I don't recognise the threads at the top.
    Best Regards:

I thinks it's a Morse taper 3. I have a Mizoguchi ( I think Kuroda heads were made by Mizoguchi) which is mechanically identical, including the two speeds. But the bottom bar holding slide looks different. Great purchase!

Boring and facing heads like that were expensive things and only used occasionally, so tended to be looked after, hence the look. These days CNC is used for a lot of the stuff that these 'old school' milling attachment were made for but that does not mean they are not still useful tools.

I think the top only looks like an external thread. MT3 with internal M12 thread sounds more like it.

    Yeah your right Mike, it's MT3 M12.

Also if this thing ever needs parts is there somewhere one might source these from? Or is a case of "fab your own"?

Usually, yes. The upside is that because these bits of kit don't get used often and were good quality to begin with, the need for spares should be minimal. It is worth trying the maker though - some of the high end manufacturers do have limited spares.
