Thread: help with TC tool inserts.

I have just about come to the last of my supply of TC inserts for one of my lathe tools.
These were sourced some time ago, and goggle seach only showed one result I could read (english), and all I got from that was that they are a chipbreaker insert and discontinued.
They are a SECO insert No: 117.16-631.
Anyone know of a equivalent tip I can use or a resource to research further. ?

That's a bugger, I've only just dumped my 2000 and 2010 Seco handbooks in the paper recycle bin ! That insert is not listed in my 2017 one and I'm just about to dump that one too. Way too expensive for me anyway. Give Seco a call and ask them, they will send you their latest hand book for free.

yes I've had them a while .......................lol

Google is suggesting to me that the equivalent these days is a TPUN insert. You would need to check that.

For around $80 posted you can buy a new turning holder of a type that takes your fancy and a pack of 10 inserts (common easy to find inserts) to suit.

Lately not being on insert tooling but having plenty of old quality ones I've taken gamble's on eBay and AliExpress tooling and bought a few.

One was a turning and facing tool with 10 inserts for around $28, thought it must be crap, but turns out a great tool and the inserts have 3 cutting edges and then they can be turned over and a fresh 3 cutting edges on the other side. Fantastic value and have cut plenty of different steels and stainless steel.

Same with a $27 4pc small boring bar set 6,7,8,10 bars from memory including 10 inserts, works absolutely great as well.

Thats what Ive found too, but the catalogue appears to be in german and my german ain't so flash.
