Flail blades
Hi all, I'm hoping someone might be able to advise me on what Steel grade Flail blades are made from? Typically a garden variety Masport or Caravaggi

I think that it would be a bit risky making your own blades, if one somehow broke and got out of there and imbedded itself into someones face or some other piece of their anatomy you would be in the sh## big time.
I have worked in a few and owned a power equipment business and in that time other mechanics and myself
when fitting new blades to anything ALWAYS used new blades and nut and bolt set, this way if someone catches
a blade and there is an inquiry then you should be ok, providing the blade did not come off because you didn't do a nut up.
I have heard quite a few tales about blades coming off and seen quite a few that have broken in half and through the blade bolt holes.
In short my advice is don't!
Buy the OEM blades and bolt set.
cheers, shed

I'm pretty sure they are spring steel. I recently replaced all the flails on my mulcher. They are also known as hammers if that helps your Google searching.
Mine were this type (US website):
