Fish-mouthing rod or tube
I'm making a large "clap-trap" for catching Indian Mynas. The frame is made from 8mm 304 SS. As I don't have TIG I have silver soldered the joints with 56% silver solder. To improve the strength of the joints I fish-mouthed the joints by securing the bar in a AXA tool holder and cutting the fish mouth with an 8mm solid carbide end mill (I don't own a milling machine). It works extremely well. As long as the end mill is the same diameter as the rod you get a perfect joint. The silver solder is expensive so a tight joint means I only needed a small amount to make the joint.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to use this method, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I'll certainly be using it again.Chris

Cant argue with someone catching those ferals.
Whilst a bit off topic, it relates toMynas.
Went to a job a while ago and asked why they had raw meat sitting on their picnic table. Response was it attract the magpies.
Apparently they do a good job of keepingMynas out of the yard.Frisky wife, happy life. Then I woke up. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

No thanks John, they are foul smelling creatures. A quick dose of CO and into the rubbish bin with them.

Ah yes the good old council burial. On that topic, had to laugh recently cause our local council put a thing out on the media about just that topic. Since when did saying not to do something actually work!!!
