C & J 4jaw chuck.
I have dug out of my stash a C & J ( Crowe & Jorgensen) Made in Australia 4 jaw chuck.
Its a 4 1/2” CO45#.
I don’t remember where this came from, I have the chuck key.
It was full of old grease/oil and the jaws where very hard to wind out.
I don’t know if it’s ever been used, had no backing plate.
Ive cleaned it up in thinners, oiled it and tried the jaws.
They are still too hard to move.
Looking at the back the screw retainers have an internal thread.
Would I be correct in assuming this would be for removal of them so I can try the jaws for fit.

The style I'm used to has a forked plug that's inserted from the back of each jaw screw and fits a recess in the screw itself. But they are always retained from the back somehow. A picture might help me give a more coherent explanation.

The thread was 1/4” whit so I used a socket and a few washers and they pulled clear ok.
Bit of a tweek with a file and she’s good to reassemble.
Guess it’ll be a matter of using a screwdriver or similar to line up the forked bits as a few of them rotated when the socket screw bottomed.
