12L14 Steel purchasing online
Does anyone else living far away from a metal supplier like I do have a source for ordering 12L14 steel online?
Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,
I have ordered from McMaster-Carr. I'm not sure what the postage would be to your neck of the woods.

Caskwarrior, that's extremely generous of you. Thank you very much for that kind offer mate.
Welder, that's also extremely generous of you as well!
I'm near Milton about an hours South of you.
I've just rung up some fabricators in Ulladulla and most weren't interested except one who said they'd order some in
for me the next time they do a steel order.
Does it machine as good as I have read about it?
All my steel has come from junk sources and its heritage is unknown, some has been shocking and gummy to machine and some a real pleasure, but I don't know what the good steel is.
Once again, thanks guys for being so generous and so willing to jump in and help.

If McMaster would ship to aus, all our industrial suppliers would go out of business, it would be great.

I just hope that the OP doesn't need 6 feet of 4" stock! It will be an eyewatering US$ 890 +shipping +GST on all that.

There is a guy in Queensland selling on eBay, as long as you don't need much as postage is the killer.

Jim,
I get my 12L14 from ABC Specialty Metals in Melbourne. Run by a couple easy going Brits. I have no idea whether they mail or not but I have found their prices to be pretty good.

Even if McMaster shipped to Oz the postage on steel would probably make it more expensive than buying local.
R.C,
Stressproof is lovely stuff to machine. The people who make it shipped me 3 feet of ⅝" round free of charge when I asked them where I could get it in Oz (answer: nowhere).Chris

David, the postage is something cruel as it is done via courier...
As an added complication, Mcmaster some years ago decided that they were not going to take on any new customers from outside the US. They have kept supplying to existing customers but will not deliver to anything other than a business address - so hobbyists are high and dry.
Even access to the catalogue is tricky, as every so often, a pop up will ask you to log into your account. Means going through a forwarder in the US is hard as you can't always find what you want or get a part number

HI,
There's a seller on E bay who posts. I can't remember his name but if I found it this afternoon I'll post it.
I have 1.8m of 63mm Diam 12L14 that for some reason I bought last year. Apart from moving it around when I moved I haven't used any of it yet (I got it for a good price!).
