Default John Heine 40c rotary shear

I recently acquired this John Heine 40c with circle cutter. I just wanted to see if there was anyone else that has one who could share their experiences or any information about them.

I started pulling it apart today as it was outside in the rain and I wanted to dry it out properly and also see that nothing needed attention internally. It looks mint and seems that it has been well greased its entire life. Pleasantly surprised that every bolt needed little effort to undo (I didn't need to reach for the sledgehammer once). I still need to figure out how to remove a collar from the top shaft that sits inside the housing in order to remove it.

The plan is to give it a good clean, re-grease and re-assemble but now i'm tempted to give it a paint job while its apart.

I'd definitely paint it now it's apart. There only appear to be 4 or 5 major pieces to paint. $40 of paint stripper, and $50 of colour matched enamel from Bunnings and you will have it looking like new.

Are the cutters in good shape?

    Graham.

There’s some very light surface rust on the cutters. Otherwise they are mint. Yeah I think I’m leaning towards painting it.

What a score. Clean it up then see if it needs that paint job, I'd be tempted to also with it down as far as that. Well worth it. Long time since I've used one it was a multi set up could be also set up as a swage tool, bead form etc.

I’m not sure if it could be used as a swage due to the top and bottom being offset, I may be wrong though. I’m looking for a 43J anyway.

    Metal spinners love these.
Ive used the one at Motorretro to make blanks in Al for spinning.
They never use it so I might just borrow it if any more spinning projects come up.
