It's imported/sold by ozmestore, it's going to be a pile of shyte shaped vaguely like a mill.

I don't want to sound negative but I think you are correct. I now have a 30 yo bridgeport clone that has worn ways that I bought sight unseen for $1200 and I'm thinking it's far superior to one of these new machines.

That's the conclusion I came to too...

but are they the same quality?

I'm in Vic, so I can't view the unit in person.

Sadly, the only Bridgies on the market atm are $5000 plus! They're probably worth that, but it's money I don't have right now. Also, I don't really have the equipment to lift and move a machine of that magnitude.

    I'm more looking for a drill/mill setup.

I had the Seig X2 I think it was, it had plastic gears in it, and I'm pretty sure these have as well.
Anyway if you had a problem with it and rang for service or spare parts, DON'T expect a phone call back!!! They don't know what the word means.

Keep an eye on Gumtree and the likes, you'll never know what's likely to turn up.

I guess I have a shytey taste and budget too. They are copies of the Taiwanese Ring Fu 45 mill. I bought a Grizzly version about 10 years ago and while certainly not a Bridgeport it is better than the round column mill drills because you can raise and lower the head without loosing your zero. The working volume is a decent size so you shouldn't have an issue fitting the part, fixtures, vices or tool chucks in it. Mine has a motor to lift the head and a power feed on the X axis. I know of a talented gent that was into competition long range shooting that converted one into a nice 3 axis CNC mill. Mine has the R8 style collet spindle that is common here. Someday if the money gods spill some on me I'd like to fit a DRO to it.

Kryn there are no plastic gears in these things. You ain't going to lift it without at least a few big buddies if it is on a stand. I use a hydraulic engine crane.

If you decide to buy one of these mills buy it from Hafpos. Not that I have any great love for them but they have enough financial strength to swap the machine or refund your money should you get a dud. The smaller guys not so much.

This. But when you put a precision straight edge on the ways and find the saddle is only touching in 2 places, don't expect them to fix that for you.

That's not a theoretical statement either - seen it a couple of times now. And with their lathes.

I really wish there was a way around the 'good-cheap-fast, pick any 2' issue but there's not. At least with a Hafpos, you'll probably only have to (re-)scrape the ways, the electricals et al will probably be OK and covered by an enforceable warranty if not.

By the time you add in the cost of precision straight edges, right angle squares, a granite surface plate though - the 'cheap' bit starts looking somewhat suspect. I've been down this path too many times myself, got 4 'project' machines right now.

As bad as these machines are or maybe as reported by various people what is your intended purpose for the type of mill drill you have in mind?
