Useful ? Circular lathe mounted filing disc
Stumbled over this photo on pinterest. Might be of interest to some people.
Its a circular file, with radially aligned teeth, mounted on the lathe, wondered why I hadn't seen them before.
Seems handy ? Genuinely don't know. My initial thoughts were "Not used any more replaced by diamond discs and modern abrasive sandpaper discs and abrasive wheels"
Big advantage you don't get abrasive material scattered all over the ways and around the spindle. That's why I've never tried grinding stuff on lathe.
If you want a frustrating time try googling them - all of the key words I tried are ambiguous.
Anybody familiar with them ? What are they called please ?

I have seen these I think in a jewellers Catalog, I seem to remember them being made by vallorbe. They are still in business too.

Couldn't find anything on the Vallorbe page, but here's something similar with the teeth cut in 6 segments, rather than radially http://www.severancetool.com/pdf/Sev...00.pdf#page=46

I like the look of these, could be very useful for controlled shaping.

I'll bet they cost a fortune. I'd like one though.

I emailed the chap, and he replied saying he has never ever seen any since he first got them second hand many years ago. Known to be very rare when he bought them initially.

I reckon you could make your own with a rotary table on a shaper. Grind a suitably shaped tool bit, offset the table so the axis of rotation is, say, 15-20mm to the side of the cut path, do a round with 1-2 degrees per index, offset to the other side the same amount and do the same, then harden as required.
It's a bit of effort, but if there was enough interest someone might be inclined to do a batch of them. If I had a shaper (or access to one) I'd give it a go myself

I'll lend you my shaper, if you want to do a batch.

150 euros each !
I emailed Lukas in Germany.
No Australian distributors.
None in stock any order would have to be manufactured.
Minimum order 50 pieces @ 150 euros per piece and will manufacture to your drawings.
Keycutting machines use very similar blades costing between $80 - $200
I have now lost interest at these prices, would have been interesting to have $20 - $40
