Ward No. 7 combination turret lathe
A friend recently bought this machine and is looking for a manual on it or someone who can advise how to cut threads on it and does it have a taper attachment - my searches on google does not mention a taper turning ability so I suspect it cant do it - any advice on this old lathe would be welcome and as I have used it myself I think he will get a lot of use out of it Regards guys

I don't think they ever came with a taper turning attachment, and thread cutting requires a special attachment and a lead screw for each thread. If you can get pics i might be able to tell you more.

Unfortunately ward in the UK are long gone but I see manuals on eBay occasionally, although usually for the larger machines. Is he planning on using it for small production runs? I don't remember if a number 7 comes with a full carriage or if you have to use box tools for turning.

Re the Ward 7query,
For turning tapers on a Ward 7 you had to add a taper turning attachment. This was not standard
and was classed as an extra. Think they would be pretty rare
Regarding screw cutting. The lathe was supplied with one "leader and nut" Dpending on what leader you have [eg leader is in fact a leadscrew.] Fore example if you had a 4 thread leader you could cut 4-8-16 pitches depending on the pitch selector quadrent. For a full range of threads you had to have 7 leaders which could give you 4 - 28 thread range. Ward also supplied metric lead screws so you need to check the pitch.
If you PM me I can supply a copy of the screw cutting procedure.
The Ward 7 range had a travelling saddle with cross slide and tool post attached.
Hope this is of some help.
