I don't have experience with Milwaukee gear old or new so I won't comment on that.
The link for the Mak stuff has a drop down to select what you want, batteries only or batteries plus charger, both with variable quantities. When I looked, they were only offering the bare batteries as they were out of stock with the chargers, so showed all charger plus battery lines as out of stock. I have a fair range of Mak 18V gear but only use the original 1.5Ah and 3Ah sized battery packs, and depending on the tool, notice the change in tool balance when changing to batteries of a different size. I know some tools have an extra plastic lug in the battery mount to prevent you inserting smaller batteries and potentially overloading and damaging them. I don't know what battery Mak consider 'normal' for your grinder, but if it was the 3Ah or smaller, the 6Ah in the link would make the unit fairly tail heavy I suspect.
Note that both charger and battery are knock off's and may not have the same life span etc as genuine Mak units.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

My 18v makita grinder won't take bigger than 3Ah batteries, so the battery in that eBay link might not fit yours.
I also only use genuine Makita batteries after being stung with aftermarket that were half the price but only lasted 6 moths. My originals are over 5 years old and still going strong.
My advice would be to buy a used genuine charger.
I've no experience with those Milwaukee converters, but if you've got lots of niCd tools give it a crack. If only one or two then I'd say pass and put the money towards replacing the tools with Li ones.

By the time you buy converters and chargers and batteries seperate you’d be pretty close on a lot of new kit prices. I’d look at selling the tools you have as there is still a little value in them and grab a new kit.
As for the majors battery problem some of the older tools won’t accept the new batteries because the big batteries have an extra connector to monitor for low voltage. You should see in the tool that there is a block that stops the battery sliding in. Remove this stop with a knife or Dremel and you’re good to go, just don’t really run the batteries down all the time.
