Plate rolling
The bloke I help out from time to time is looking at getting a plate roller. Have seen one that has the roll diameter of 110 and a width of 1870. The bottom rollers appear to be very close together, with the top roller above the centre of the 2 bottom rollers.
Would anyone know what capacity this machine could be? The seller doesn't know the capacity, as he only buys and sells used equipment.
Have attached an image for better reference.plate roller.JPG
Thanks in Advance.

Comparing the build strength of the components to that of a pan brake, I would have thought maybe 2mm or less, at full width. Maybe slightly thicker with reduce width.
If I were to guess, I would say it was a sheet roller, not a plate roller.

Just looked on Hare and Forbes site, there 4mm one is 2m x 150 roller. And there 2.5mm one is 2m x 150 roller.
It looks like that one would be 2mm max, maybe 1.6 at full widthUsing Tapatalk

It will depend a lot on what hw wants to roll. There will be almost an order of magnitude difference between some stainless steel sheet materials and say soft aluminium sheets or copper sheet. It may be able to roll 8mm of pure aluminium plate, but something as tough as Bisalloy would be another matter altogether. For those tough materials the limit could be under 1mm for a full width sheet.

It's far too light to be a plate roll. Definitely a sheet roller.
I would guess at full width no more than 3mm or 4mm sheet thickness.

Agree with everyone, thats a tiddler, used for light thin sheet. Plate rollers are big bastard 3 phase machines with tremendious hydraulic strength to roll plate.

I have to admit I know nothing of which I speak.
Out and about today I had a conversation with a gentlemen I use to work with back in the day. After being told that my memory sucks he reminded me that the machine we used had 6" rollers, was heavy framed and struggled with 6 mm.
So I retract my 4 mm may be 6 mm comment.
He suggests, (as others have done) that its probably a sheet roller up to 3 mm.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I found out today, that what he's looking for is something 2400+ wide and capable of rolling 5mm steel, minimum!!!
He could have told me that before I went looking

Thanks for that Dave, didn't realise they sold them. Not too bad a price for Chinese made, he'll be running it off a 65kva Generator, if the CNC Plasma cutter's not being used, as I don't think it'll run both of them.

Hi Kryn,
I agree with previous posts, definitely a sheet roller, 2.5 mm tops at that width.
I have a small 18" wide set of rolls, It maxes out at 1.5 mm in steel and 2 mm in alloy. Even rolling 12" wide copper into a 100 mm cylinder is hard work on the handle.Best Regards:
