Water soluble surface plate blue supplier?
Hi all anyone got a source for water soluble surface plate blue?
I've tried the blackwoods holti bearing blue and it's inferior to the water based stuff.

I didn't even know that water soluble blue was available!
You can easily make you own to your own specs but it uses oil and prussian blue so it's not water soluble.
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

I think you are looking for canode, GregQ bought up a heap and passed it around at one of the scraping classes, he had blue and yellow, some people used both for extra contrast..
Phil might still have some tubes, if not. This might give you a lead. https://www.artcotools.com/Canode-Bl...tting-Ink.html

Yep pretty much canode I think.
This is what I've found so far I'll post when it gets here if it's any good - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Engineer...wAAMXQxzZRfJpj

Have a look at ox-tools latest video on YouTube. He talks a bit about water soluble artist supplies for use when scraping, it may be of some use to you.

The eBay link shows a "Marking Blue" - that is for marking out. I doubt that it will work as bearing blue. But I could be wrong and it is a dual purpose blue.... never heard of that before.
Canode is the only water soluable bearing blue I know of. Will have a look at Oxtools video now.Cheers, Joe

The following mediums are oil based rather than water based, so disregard if it doesn’t suit your needs.
l have no experience scraping, however a couple of YouTube videos that l found interesting are-
Wes Johnson, 'Hand scraping how l do it' &
Brian Ives. 'Hand scraping training video'
In both these videos they talk about using orange and black cement pigment, mixed with oil to a paste.
Hope this is of interest to someone.

That makes sense in a way, the process of making a print from an etching is similiar to marking high spots when scraping. Definately worth further investigation.
I think it's this stuff https://www.mes.net.au/product-group...762-charbonnel

Phil also posted a recipe for making ones own from prussian blu. I have some half dozen blu and red canode and its not as dark as phils recipe. Thus the scrapes dont stand out as well on canode as it does on the prussian blu recipe.
