Dean, I reckon it would be a good job for your plasma. Just make up a negative template and away you go. Clean up will be necessary, but should not be too bad.

based on the PDF by krisfarm it's saying the arms are 12guage / 0.1046" / 2.65mm
the bigger of the arms is 5.26 inch / 133.6mm x 2.44 inch / 62mm
I'd need to do the drawings up and send them to my laser cutter but I'd hazard a guess that would end up sub $15, maybe even sub $10 for the 4 arms required to make it from 250mpa mild steel.
Would cost as much to post them out as it would to get them cut likely
I'll get around to getting it quoted one day but got too many projects that I need to cross off the list before I get to the kant twist clamps

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for your comments, pictures and data. Your input is very useful and much appreciated.
I spent some time analysing the pictures I had seen earlier.
I've done a quick sketch based on those. It seems that all the hole positions are just points on two concentric circles. This makes designing clamps for different sizes very easy to do. Just decide on how big you want your clamp to be based on the diameter of a circle.

Looking at all the pictures here and the PDF from Bob, thanks Bob, it should be an interesting exercise. I will post a copy of the final DFX file so that others can use it to make their own clamps, and a build log. With pictures of course
Now based on the above drawing, I went and got a price for for eight pieces, four of each leg, laser cut in 3mm mild steel plate, of £10.00p subject to me providing a suitable DXF file for each of the two pieces. Delivery two to three weeks because they would be added to the next job using 3mm material. I'm quite happy with that.
So as soon as I get the parts I will take pictures and post them along with any other associated bits. I hope that I've covered all the points brought up at this time.
More later.Best Regards:

Looks good Baron. Did you add the dog leg? Is this to increase the opening width?

Hi Dean,
All the pictures I've looked at have a dog leg ! The actual angle is quite arbitrary, as you noticed having a dog leg allows the clamp to open more than it would otherwise. I just drew a line between three points and measured the angle.Best Regards:

Hi Guys,
I've just done the drawing for the two pieces of the frame of the Kant style clamp.
This is a jpg of the DFX file that I will send to have laser cut. If anyone wants a copy of the DFX, shout out and I will post it here.Kant-03.jpeg
The DFX will get Emailed to the laser cutter on Monday, so if anyone spots any error or whatever please let me know.
Thanks:Best Regards:

Ok. I had a look at Google and the ones pictured earlier in this thread and did not see any like that. It is better that they offer wider openings, but it would be harder to make them. My concern has been how to cut them out economically with an angle grinder, but the plasma covers this problem.

Hi Guys, Grahame, Nev,
Nev: No sooner said.
Grahame: Thanks for that link. I like the idea of square blocks on the clamping face. A vertical and horizontal "V"s would be quite useful there along with a flat and a chequered face.

I'm not sure that the attachment is OK. If not please PM me with your EmailBest Regards:

Hi BaronJ
Nice work on the drawings/ DXF file. I would suggest that you look at adding extra bracing pins to both parts to keep them together, one just up from where the clamping foot is located and one just above the swivel screw jack point on both legs.Have a look at the pictures of my ones that I posted, I have a bracing pin above the swivel screw jack point on the both legs but no lower ones, they need one especially on the larger sizes.. I am looking at building a set of six inch deep throat ones and will be including eight bracing pins on each one.

Hi Bob,
You have me confused I copied the position of the brace pins from your pictures, do you mean, add a couple more ?
Do you want a scaled up drawing for your bigger clamps ?Best Regards:

Hi BaronJ,
Sorry for the confusion, I should have added a picture. The black stars are where I feel all size clamps need some extra support, the yellow star
for the bigger sizes. I have used my clamps quite a lot and will be adding this to my next lot. If it is not too much trouble a scaled up drawing would be appreciated. I made up a cardboard version based on the dog leg design you have shown as I need a deep throat clamp with "E" dimension around 5.5".

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the picture ! I understand what you mean now.
DFX attached, should give you about 170 mm. I've not added any extra holes, so have a look and let me know if you want any added and where.
