Default Multitool repairs to belt tracking cam

This is the Multitool belt grinder.

Has anyone attempted this type of repair before? The cam pivot hole or the pin itself is worn as there is enough slop there to reduce a lot the cam movement. The belt won't track properly because of this wear.

Once I remove the arm and disassemble the unit I think it is simple enough to turn a new bush from what I can see at this point.

The cam plate is moved by lever N in the diagram. It pivots around the pin and its that which may have to come out to determine location of the wear

Sorry about the small size it is a screen shot from the MultiTool instructions.

Removal it seems will be a pain as the pulley has to come off to remove the bolts holding the idler arm to the right angled plate that bolts to the motor

Does anybody know if the pin that cam pivots on, is screwed or pressed into the into the plate ( M ) between the right angled plate and the idler arm plate.

I'll add a pic tomorrow its too late to do anything now.

    Thanks in advance

Today , I removed the pulley today and was able take off the idler arm and the plate that retains the pivot pin.

It turned out that the pin was a press fit and was easily tapped out with a punch. The eccentric placed hole in the lever provides the cam action and it is sloppy in its fit around the pin by several thou.
The unit must be one of the originals as the pin measures 3/8" imperial.

I propose to turn a new pin to 10m diameter and get my mate to open the hole in the lever to 10mm with his mill or maybe just ream it.

My original description was slightly incorrect as the job was covered in twenty five years of dust and it was in a poor light when I looked at it.

Some pics follow but aren't all that good because of the available light.

    The repair was completed.

A new pin was turned to suit the hole diameter placed eccentrically in the tracking ever. That fixed, what was left was the slop between the radius edge of the tracking lever and the U shaped aperture in the plate that the Idler arm is welded to.

The wear spot in U shaped plate was fixed by some dabs of bead and some judicious filing.

A rolled edge caused by stamping was found on the 3mm edge and was the original contact surface against the tracking lever- also stamped. Also I did some filing on the radius of the tracking lever to remove the same ridged edge.

The contact edges did not form a square surface, so the narrow ridge wore away- mind,it took 25 years.

Uee made comment about the poor tracking of the Multitool to at some stage in the past and I now fully understand what he was on about. The Multi tool would really benefit from a dedicated tracking roller -far less mucking about in my opinion.

Good for another twenty years I hope.
