Get there early if you are going on a Friday. Every one has lost interest by Friday. Especially the Chinese in the manufacturers Pavillion. They all shoot through by lunch time. Wednesday is the pick of them. Day after the hick ups of opening day.

I go Tuesday opening day. Its a day out for me. I throw a suit on, and get there in time for the opening address, by the minister for Industry.

Then back it up with Wednesday or Thursday. Every one I know is at that show. I'm thinking about getting a hotel in town for one or two nights. If you manage to pull a ticket to the after parties. I turned down Headland last year. Much to my regret. Some of my customers have a Stand. We usually hit that German beer hall, just West of Jeff's shed. Munich Brahaus.

Some of my best mates have gone on to become Interstate service managers for the big agents. Several of them will be down for the show. I'm told Bar 20 and Goldfingers gets a hit out. I wouldn't know about that.

I do a great bit of networking via that show. It only happens every 2 years now. Proves I'm still alive. Catch up with blokes I used to work with, or only see each other year now.

    Regards Phil

This would be one of the best shows to attend, unfortunately I'm not going to make it this time around, so for anyone who is attending, take pictures and let us know ( taunt us ) with what we missed. ( sniff )

Especially interested in anyone doing 3D printing in metal, I predict there will be a few.

Have fun, don't forget to post some pictures.

Interesting, hope someone can put up some photos. I had tickets to MTA Singapore again this year, but sadly just missed it. Was there the day before and the day after. Close but no cigar!

I'm curious as to how the Australian show compares as I was very impressed with MTA. Good luck to those who can attend.

    Pete,
I have been to several MTA's in Kuala Lumpur and 2 Austech in Melbourne, last, several years ago and my impression was the KL one was about 3 times the size and quite compressed, ie narrower isles and more vendors selling items. Also the remote buildings had a number of machines under power, welders, plasma, water jet, cnc / manual lathes & mills etc. I suspect a lot of this has to do with OSHA type req which appear laxer than in Oz, also Oz is the end of the rail line whereas Asia is only a short hop for China and India exhibitors. Also appear to be many more retail / agent outlets in SE Asia so easier to setup. Have not been to Singapore MTA yet but my impression based on marketing for this year, was, its more focused on the upper end of manufacturing, ie gauging / measuring etc. Alan.

I attended in 2015 and will be there Tuesday and Wednesday this year.
I am taking my 19 year old Son this trip to hopefully inspire him into a possible career.
It's also a good chance to catch up with my suppliers and also some friends
    in the industrial sectors.

Ok thanks. I went to SIN on your recommendation and have since been extremely grateful for that heads-up. Many, machines were running, maybe even most of them in fact. The exception were the really massive machines, where just getting them onsite must have been quite the feat! You're absolutely right, it was quite up market and I've never seen such an amazing variety of DMG Mori kit. Most of it running punching out widgets. Singapore has priced itself out of the consumer goods market, hence why I have my Aciera etc as they closed up the Philips factory. I was speaking with a person on a stand about things there and he said Singapore was positioning itself into medical technology as there was a good cross-over from semiconductor manufacturing to the medical side of things. Unfortunately here in Oz we don't have that option. I got the impression business has good for the machine sellers at SIN as the technology is turned over. The VMC we left behind there presumably got destroyed with the building.

    Edit: a few tasty shots

This was the only one of these photos where the machine wasn't running. How the heck they got machines this size on the floor is beyond me!

I was planning on Driving up with my dad. But unfortunately I have started another apprenticeship so that has thrown a spanner into the works. Annoying as I was hoping to get some show specials on some mitutoyo calipers, please tease us with some pictures maybe I can make the 2019 show

Cough Cough. I'll buy you some new Mits calipers if you have fallen it to a good apprenticeship program.

I am starting another apprenticeship in a totally different field that being refrigeration mechanic. I have no idea if i will like it or not but the opportunity to learn new skills was too good to pass up.

Looking at this thread made me think of some of the past machinery shows.
I remember the ones at Sydney Showground's at Randwick, lots of exhibitors spread over several pavilions.
Then when it moved to the Darling Harbour Exhibition Halls, the early ones filled all the halls there.
When it then moved to Homebush was smaller and not as grand as it used to be.
Melbourne has always put on good exhibitions.

Had the opportunity to go to Hannover Exhibition about 14yrs ago, for us who love machinery and technology it was like a kid going to Disneyland. Too much to see in the time you had to see.

I managed to get there today. I missed the opening speech's. I fear for this industry, it's a small show. Guhring was the only Carbide company there. And that's probably because they specialise in drilling. I mention it, because if you are selling machines, you need carbide tooling.

Seco, Iscar, Sandvik dabble at the edges. A few magnetic badges saying they were tooled by, stuck to running machines. Which was limited.

DMG / Mori & John Hart / Mazak has some 5 axis stuff going on. Hart's is actually making swarf.

Next to nil hand tools. Least I've ever seen.

If you see a stand called HIWin. Linear rails and ball screws. Ask for Jame's /Jimmie. Milk him out of Plastic Vernier Caliper's & Pens. Tell him Phil says hello.

He has on the stand an example of a roller ball screw. That's new and novel .(It was here 2 years ago, but it is still cool). And you still get a free pen.

By my count there was only 3 local manufacturer's on the floor. MultiCam, ANCA & SWI.

    Regards Phil
