Default There are some good people out there

I just got home and went to the back gates so I can hitch the trailer to go get some mulch for the in laws. There was a Heineken box in front of the gates and after telling the father in law someone left him a present was the local boys have been having a up last night and left their rubbish again.

To my surprise the box was heavy a peek inside revealed a casting.
I immediately had a good idea what it was.
When I purchased the surface grinder it was believed the guard was never with the machine.

So it is a real nice surprise to get it and what a top bloke for dropping it off when he found it as I would never have known the difference.

I tried to contact the bloke to thank him but couldn't get through and I know he sold his property and has since moved.

I had a similar experience buying a woodplane. It was a Record 08ss, but it was missing half the "Stay-Set" cap-iron. Several months later the seller dropped in the missing half, without warning, and without asking any extra for it. What I thought was a reasonable price to pay for the plane with a missing rare part suddenly became a really good buy.

    There are good people.

    Cheers, Vann.

Bought a completely dismantled early Lister gen set ( half a ton of it) at auction. Almost all parts were there except the heavy cast iron base that it sits on. Seems the plan was to take the unit apart and fly it a few bits at a time to a remote fishing camp in the North Kimberley, only accessible by float plane or ocean going barge via Darwin. Enquiries revealed that the base had been flown to the camp years earlier and was still on a remote beach above cyclone surge level. Suggested to the air charter people that I would be willing to discuss the possible cost of retrieving it if the chance arose, and they said they would "keep it in mind".
One afternoon a year or so later I received a phone call to say that if I dashed down to the float plane mooring on the river I might be able to collect the base. Arrived there to find two keen young pilots wrestling their own weight in cast iron up the slippery riverbank. Gratefully hoisted it aboard the ute while enquiring the name of their favorite brew back at the hangar. Very happily delivered a suitable quantity of refreshment to them promptly. The old thumper now provides my standby power when storms knock out the mains supply.
Yes, there really are some good people out there!
