    Default Grinding Wheel

Can anyone suggest where to obtain one of this type of grinding wheel at a reasonable price?

    Grinder Wheel.jpg

I am looking for one to use with my drill bit sharpening attachment. It will also be used for the Eccentric Sharpening Tool when I get it finished. I would also appreciate info on which type and grade would be suitable.

Here in Adelaide there is a place called Weber Abrasives (in Welland I think) that should be able to help.
Normally the rule is 'hard material, soft wheel' so if you explain to them it is for drill bits they should be able to recommend a suitable grade. I have a spare grinding booklet that you can have if that helps too.
What OD are you looking for? Pete had a few wheels at one stage (I grabbed some) so there may be one there that suits.

    Hi,

Blackwoods lists the type 6 straight cup wheel in general purpose grades

    https://www.blackwoods.com.au/search...pe-6/302022918

I'd get about a 38A60-KVBE, similar to your photo.

    Cheers

    Hi Dean,
    I use these people
Sanding Tools & Abrasive Equipment | AbTec

They actually manufacture stuff as well and are very helpfull.
But note I'm in the UK.
    Best Regards:

In case you don't have a Blackwoods login, the 6" cupped wheels are around the $48 mark for 2" deep and $135 for the 8" wheel (both GST inc)

Thanks heaps for that info Gavin. I missed your post until now. There is a Blackwoods in Mt. Gambier and I think I can manage $135. I don't have a login.

That's not a problem, Blackwoods now allow you to register an account as an individual, without an ABN. Makes life much easier.

The wheel I am looking at is

    https://www.blackwoods.com.au/part/0...m-38a46f12vbep

This is the only 180mm wheel they have listed. Other than that one it is back to 150mm. Any issues with this one? I know very little about the codes for these wheels (or any others). The 826mm is 82.6mm. Can someone provide actual sizes from this code? I know OD is 180mm.

The web page has a drawing. If it was shown about 4 times the size, just maybe it might be readable. I rang and asked. They did not know and were going to find out and email me back. Nothing yet. The Saint-Gobain web site (owners of Norton) and a Norton web site seem to be under construction. All they provide is the very annoying "Look at the sort of stuff we carry", dead end pages.

I will check Michael's suggestion next week. I will be going to Adelaide soon.

One day I will register. I have not had enough incentive up to now.

I have a booklet that you can have that gives the basics of wheel codes. However,
    38A46F12VBEP

is using 38A abrasive ( Al oxide - typically for sharpening)
    46 grit size
    F bond (softish)
    12 denotes structure
V is a vitrified bond and the BEP is a manufacturer's class of bond.

Thanks Michael. Any idea of the sizes. I want to make sure the face is wide enough for my purposes. At that price I don't want to take any chances.

To start with, I think Blackwoods have a typo on their catalogue page. That last number should be 32 not 82...
This is what I think they are offering -

    Hope that helps.

Added to Michael's info: "P" is for a porous bond. Looks like a bit of swiss cheese but holes not as big! Gives better cooling on some applications.

Dean. Look for a "Recessed 1 side" wheel rather than a Cup wheel. The recessed wheel gives a wider rim than a cup wheel which will suit your application better.

Thanks Michael. That makes more sense. That 82.60 threw me. Where did you get the 16mm face width from?

OldRustyToolie, Thanks for that advice, not. Just when I thought I had the right wheel and you go and poke holes in it. Seriously tho, I am not sure if the 16mm width on that wheel would be sufficient. I will have another look.
