    Default weld positioner

This is a video of a weldpositioner I made using the sprockets from old bicycles. I used this link after giving up waiting for the video to download off my ipad. If I were to make it again I would probably have the second idler on the drive shaft, I might change that yet, but will use it as is for now

Looks pretty cool. In the video you mentioned a PWM speed controller for the wiper motor - do you have any details? I have been thinking about a wiper motor to drive my bead roller and speed control would be useful.

Neat! What sort of welding do you regularly do on that?
Just a thought. Would it not have been easier to just isolate the faceplate from the rest of the drive? Although as the work potential should be relatively zero I'm not so sure that the welder voltage would interfere or affect the drive motor anyway. I guess if you strike an arc and the motor accelerates to 1500 RPM you might notice that

Phil, I was welding once on a conveyor frame and it earthed back through the motor and cooked it so I have found out the hard way that you can burn out a motor with a welder.
Grant, if you look for a pwm ( pulse width modulator) controller on ebay you'll find plenty. Mine came from China and I put it in an old guitar footpedal box I made years sgo. It cost very little. The beauty of a pwm is it doesn't loose much torque. Normally this drives the table on my mill.

I have a couple of 10A ones kicking around - I will give them a try. I think the stall current of a windscreen wiper motor would be closer to 15A so might have to invest in a bigger one for the final design - would size did you use?

Grant I haven't a clue, I used a 12 volt power pack from a computer, it has never struggled on the mill and I cant see it being any different with something slung between centres either.
