Not sure what the rules are over there, but you might be able to get a over mass permit. Yeah machines can be deceiving we scrapped 50 taper Cincinnati vertical mill at work, I figured it weighed about 3t and I could just pick it up with the crane (5t), I was pretty annoyed when the boss told me it weighs 6T and i have to skate it out.

I've got a line on what looks like a decent 10T Hydraulic Toe Jack, for not a lot of money. Change out of $500. It would be a Chinese copy of a Hillman. Toe Jacks - Hilman Rollers

I have the link bookmarked on my work computer, I'll send it to you tomorrow. I have the day off. Stock in Melbourne, out West. I've been meaning to go and look at one.

Looks like the machine is off the floor all ready. There's some screaming deals on Enerpac style cylinders. 10T x 2" @ $150

BVA H1002 10000PSI Hydraulic Cylinder 10 TON 2" Stroke NOT Enerpac | eBay

There a perfect size for working with those skates.

    Regards Phil.

P.S What time should I get there?

    Hi Phil,

Those toe jacks look just the thing and certainly beats the price of some I have looked at. Can you post the link when you have time and I will look into getting one.

The planer is already off the ground about 1 inch. It's sitting on ?anti vibration pads which the owner thought his dad used because the planer wouldn't be 500m from the runway at Sydney airport. I didn't notice any vibration from landing planes but I suppose it was the reason. Interestingly the Mori seiki jig borer I brought from Qantas had a similar setup.

I have to say Phil your scraping courses have really ignited some serious passions. This forum would have the highest concentration of granite tables/hand scrapers/Biaxs/slideway grinders in the world. You might have to do a more advanced machinery reconditioning workshop sometime

    Regards

    Mark

Looking at those Hilman toe jacks makes me wonder how hard it would be to flip a hydraulic cylinder upside down and cut a couple of plates for the foot.

Image is from here Toe Jacks - Hilman Rollers

I vaguely recall a discussion about inverting hydraulic cylinders, but as usual I wasn't paying attention...

I do not think they will work upside down Ray, as the pump in the base relies on it being right way up to get oil. Some will work on their side like for pipe benders, but they are specially built to do that.

Yeah, I made one. Worked fine for light loads.

Then I tried to lift the front end of the cradle holding my 7.5 tonne boat.....

No damage to boat or person but let's say the toe jack frame wasn't the same any more. I'd use a commercial one made of heat treated forgings and work within its stated load rating. Lifting gear is one of those things I really don't like to see jury-rigged.

Jacks will work fine upside down with a small modification.
Take the jack apart and drill and tap the feed port for a length of tube that extends to the top of the reservoir. Rassemble, prime and use.

My feelings exactly. Been there when things go wrong and never again. Pay the price and sleep well.

Be careful what you wish for....

Nice fine dry day here so I got on with the burning off before summer. 3 more big piles to go and that'll be it for the year.

All our dams are full, the Bass Strait cable is functional again, so we can go back to selling dirt cheap 'green' hydro power to Victorians...... at extortionate 'green' rates.

I'll throw a few more trees in the pile to help global warming along a bit. Enjoy.

They probably will, but they sure as hell will not cover mine when I start burning.
