Haven't noticed the actual item prices to be any dearer - any price change in my first order since he came back online can be attributed purely to the change in the dollar.

However the shipping is dearer, but appears to be capped at about $80AUD to Sydney. My order was heavy enough to have justified ground/sea shipping under their old shipping system, however it was just a dollar or two difference between 5 day shipping and two week shipping.

Regardless, order submitted a week ago, still no confirmation that it's actually shipped

In the past it was never unusual to take a week or two to get an order shipped. He is just a middle man and the order gets sent to whoever in China and they do all the work getting everything together.

I am interested to see if the seller is still as good as the old reports. They have some stuff I'm interested in.

Thats the one. I have spent quite a bit there over the last couple of years. They can be cheap, but it is best to save up for a big order and have it all sent together. Add stuff to the shopping cart and then go to the shopping cart page where you will be able to calculate shipping. A single item has a pretty steep shipping cost, but buying more stuff brings the per item cost down.

shipping costs have gone up to over $200 on my cart selections of ~$800 of tools (total ~$1000) and its not giving me any options, does that sound right?

That figure sounds ok, but I haven't made any purchases from them since they came back online. When you get to the checkout there should be an option to select shipping method. According to their list of steps it is step 4.

I have just done a check on aliexpress and before I buy from CTC I will check his prices in future

a indexable 20mm end mill from here is a lot cheaper at approx AU$70.00 and with free postage than CTC at AU$127.00 incl $20.00 postage (both same size and same inserts etc)

    That is a considerable saving.

Ah yes, same size, same inserts - but is it the same quality????
    (I just do NOT know.)

yes Roger that is always a concern...but I bought some of his dovetail cutters sometime back only to find the exact same on aliexpress at a much cheaper price

CTC is just a reseller same as H&F.
H&F source a lot of there milling and lathe tools from Marox
you can see their TM logo as well as the Marox logo clearly in this link to a pic on the H&F site......
other pics on their site only show their TM logo
And yes I have purchased direct from Marox.

I really think Hiene is becoming too dear as compared to some new stores that are appearing and who will take less profit in the interim to get a foot hold in the market. CTC is established, has a good reputation and can set his profit margins accordingly.

I find the prices for such tools to vary over almost a 10:1 range. But buying from an Australian retailer usually leaves me regretting the idea, either because of high markup or poor quality. The H&F price was ~$84; the Marox was listed elsewhere at ~US$30.

I bought a new Stanley carpenter brace recently for ~$50. After two days the plastic upper handle was falling to pieces. I bought two antique Stanley braces with wood handles (same, just older) at the same time for $20 the pair - in very good condition.

Oh yes - suggestions for alternatives to CTC? Please!

    Cheers
    Roger
