    So that seems to work

Its a pretty boring video but might do a more in depth video when I get a minute
Just a few points about the planer

Originally built late 60s or early 70s and purchased by the government for a single job. The working envelope was enlarged from 8 ft to 12 feet for some reason.
Was then purchased by a company in Sydney that already had 3 planers for making press dies and thought it would be a more modern option. They moved it from Melbourne to Sydney.

It originally had a DC drive via a DC generator but this caused a number of problems so they replaced it with an AC drive. This involved adding a 40Hp inverter and a whole lot of complicated wiring/electronics. The inverter alone would have been thousands

They didn't use it much and for various reasons decided to sell it. Unfortunately they had no takers and were close to scrapping it when I came along. The owner was a lovely gentleman who sold it to me rather than the scrap man.
Then came the task of moving it. A friend and I slept on the workshop floor for 3 nights nights while we prepped it for removal and transport. Andre dropped in to check it out and Machtool came by and weighed the machine for me with some hydraulic rams (turned out to be very accurate). I was loading it onto my own truck to take home and had a 17 tonne limit which I knew this was going to be close to. Turned out to be 16 tonne+ and with electrical cabinet and other sundries was right on the limit for me to move.
It was located in a small shed in Botany in Sydney right near the airport. Once it was electrically disconnected, oil removed, counter weight lifted out and a few other pieces removed to reduce its height and width we skated it out the door with a couple of inches to spare. The access to lift it onto the truck was extremely difficult with lots of other businesses in this space so we decided to do it on a Sunday so we wouldn't be in everyone's way. The crane company came down and figured they could lift it onto the truck with a Franna if they took the table off to reduce the frame weight to about 13 tonnes. On the day though it didn't work out quite so easy. Because it was difficult to rig the Franna just couldn't lift it. So after 3-4 hours we gave up and they decided to go and get a proper crane. Now remember this is a Sunday and the guy was already not happy to be made come in on the weekend. Also we are right next to the airport and they have rules about big cranes operating this close to the airport. But the crane guy was now really so he didn't care. So he went and got a 50 tonne crane but this was too big to get anywhere near the planer. So after a lot of rigging he picked it up and swung it over the roof of the shed and eventually onto the truck. That was a stressful day. I was dreading the bill but after discussing with the crane boss (who was the guy who came to look at the job initially) he just charged me the cost of the Franna hire as he said it was his mistake. Nice guy!!!
So now at least the planer is on the truck and we spend the rest of the day tying everything down for the trip home in the morning. Now of course the planer is overwidth and close to maximum height to transport. My friend was driving the pilot vehicle and we did a night drive of the route Sunday evening. I wasn't allowed to drive through any tunnels so we had to take a very long and winding route through the streets of Marrickville before we could get back onto the M5. Boy does traffic build up early on a Monday morning in Sydney and those streets are very narrow with way too many cars allowed to park on the street. But eventually we get back onto the M5 and the slow trip home started. Managed to weigh within limits at the weigh station (just) and despite plenty of lookers including the police for quite a while we arrived home in one piece late that day. I slept well that night. I always say I'm not going to do that again but then something else come up and a new road trip is planned!!

So why go to all that trouble.
The planer is in mint condition.
Fully electric drive with infinitely variable cutting and return speeds
    Pressurised way oiling
    Powered traverse and downfeed
Pendant control with inching movement forward and reverse for positioning
    automatic tool lifting on return
And if I didn't likely no one else would have and it would be Chinese shovels now

So enjoy the video and I'll add more soon.
Also the bed speed in very slow in the video. Wanted plenty of time just in case something didn't work right!

    Regards

    mark

Needed a general clean, counterweight re inserted and all the wiring reattached. Luckily all the numbers on the wires were still there so came together reasonably quickly. Unfortunately when I fired her up nothing happened so had to go back to basics and do some wire chasing. Slowly worked out what was meant to happen and with some minor changes it all came to life. Happy enough to put the table back on and see her working for the first time in 3-4 years. Still have work to do but definite step forward today

Attachment 394642 Table being put on. It was a bit of a slow process as the table gear rack had to mesh with the spiral drive gear. Got there in the end.

Anyone know how to add video from your own recording rather than from the internet?
    Thanks

So while I wait for things to dry out so we can start harvest have managed to move the lathes and milling machines into position. These are always tricky to move safely as they are so top heavy.

    IMG_2826 (2).jpg

IMG_2827 (2).jpg Lots of cleaning and checking over after being in storage for so long.

Only 6 more machines to move into position so nearly there.

    Cheers

You must be skinny, Mark. doesn't look like a lot of working room between those lathes.

Only 700mm between them but it seems enough. Can move them around if I need to but that configuration will do for the moment. Really just trying to get all machines more or less in the approximate position they will end up in. Had enough of moving machines but nearly there
