Default G clamps that doesn't close

I picked up a large G clamp at the sunday trash n treasure. Nice big solider Australian made thing. Gave the thread a good wire wheeling and a coating of Lanotec. I always store them screwed closed to my surprise this one finishes about 2" short of fully closed.

For something really big it probably makes no difference but if you were just going for depth of throat it would be come a limitation.

Not come across this before and was curious if it is common or nit?

I've seen clamps like that before........ might even have one....you can always add a block.
Maybe thats the longest screw they could make?

Dale, these clamps are reasonably common. A long clamp like that, if done up hard can twist the screw off centre, DAMHIKT. Ask one of my stupid ex employees, that used a shifter on the handle to tighten it a bit more.

I have a couple of clamps like that, used one yesterday, normally if you were clamping pieces and you needed a opening that wide it would not be an issue.
As Kryn says twisting g clamp screws of center and moving a part can be a problem, it looks like a Parex brand, I reckon they are up there with the best.

Not sure what brand it is. There are a few markings on it but they are quite small, the largest being Australian made.. Nothing stood out as a brand or logo.

It had $50 written on it so I'd assume that is what the PO paid for it possibly used as he was quick to point out he was asking much less.

This one is branded 'Parex' with perhaps a model number (E4410) on the side photographed, and on the other side has 'Dropforged Steel' and 'Made in Australia' on it. (as I just noticed Ted C mentioned above)

Looks as though it may well have come out of the same factory, if its not the same brand? I actually rarely find much use for it to be perfectly honest....
