Default Thrust bearing for Cincinnati Monoset leadscrew

Does anyone know of a source for Imperial single direction ball thrust bearings? I am in need of a couple for my Monoset T&C grinder. They are pretty simple, 1/2' bore, 32/32' OD, and 1/4" thick. Two hardened washers sandwiching a ball cage. Metric ones are readily available but will not fit. There may be someone holding old stock, there are no numbers on the discs. The bearings take care of thrust and backlash on the various leadscrews.

I can get some from the US if there is not a local source. I would have thought if you ask at a proper bearing shop they should be able to order some for you. The ones I can get have an OD of 15/16" though

    Peter,

You could try Lewis in Melbourne (http://www.lewiseng.com.au/bearings.html) who seem to be able to get a lot of imperial bearings, Applied Industrial Technologies in Sydney (02 9725 9200, used to be SKF) who managed to find an obsolete imperial size for me, or Hooper Bearings in Sydney. Just give them the dimensions and general description - no need for a bearing number. You might want to check that both thrust washers have the same ID and OD - sometimes they differ so that one washer is tight on the shaft and the other has clearance - same for the housing fits.

    Cheers,
    Bill

    Hello Peter,

Could you check your sizes ! I've looked through the few data books that I have and checked on line but I cannot find anything with the mesurements that you give. The nearest is SKF 51101 at 0.475" x 1.024" x 0.240". I've even looked in an old RHP book dated 1978 and can only find one and that has 0.480" for the centre hole.
    Best Regards:

is 32/32" right? That is 1"

The standard 1/2" bore bearing is 31/32" OD and is a FT 1/2

Typo error, 31/32" OD is correct. I did have an SKF catalogue with Imperial sizes and numbers but it has become lost in the move from WA to NSW.

Sounds like you need a FT 1/2 which is 0.5" ID, .969 OD .25 thick.
I bought some FT 3/4 last week from Bearing Wholesalers.

Salesman was a bit mystified, but the part number came up on his computer.

Edit, more info: there is a link on this page for the "The Manual" which has 'em all:

Thanks Neil, That sounds like the right one. I will get on to them tomorrow. The hardened washers are 1/64' and the balls are 1/8'' giving 1/4'' thick, no grooves. A couple of these bearings have indentations in the washers where some ham fisted previous owner has had a go with a hammer. I could simply flip the washers and get new balls into the cages if all else fails. I would imagine that quite a few American machine tools have a similar type of bearing on the lead screws.
