    Default Mt5 to MT3 ?

    Folks,

Does anybody have a MT5 to MT3 adaptor for sale. My lathe is MT5 taper and my collet chuck is MT3. I need one that will allow me to insert my retaining bolt through it. Please let me know what youve got spare.

    regards

Make sure your lathe is morse taper 5 first..

If it has a spindle bore of 2" or slightly bigger and of Japanese/Taiwanese/Chinese origin, it could be metric taper 50..

The lathe is a Hafco chinese AL320G with a 38mm spindle bore and it is definitely a MT5

How much of hurry are you in? Ausee list an open adaptor for just under $20, but it's showing out of stock - they might be getting more?

    Otherwise something like this:

plus an angle grinder should give you what you need?

CTC Tools sell them out of HK for just under $20 AU + shipping.
They have a tang on the end which is easily cut off with an angle grinder and metal cutting disc. Not difficult and no great accuracy required.
I have the same lathe and the headstock taper is definitely MT5. I bought a MT4 ER32 collet chuck for mine along with a MT5/MT4 sleeve adaptor from which I removed the tang to allow for the M16 draw bar. Works fine.
I also have a MT5/MT3 sleeve adaptor which I have used for machining tailstock fittings after I had machined the MT3 taper on a number of blanks.

    Thanks Alan.

Looks like cutting the tang off one is the way to go.
