Thread: Beaver lever block

Does anyone know if the Beaver brand of lever hoist is made in Australia, or that other place?

I just bought a 500kg unit and the quality seems a lot better than imported units.

I'm using the hoist in a horizontal mode, and according to the instructions, don't. Can anyone think why not?

I hope I bought well from Just tools in South Melb at $155. What a terrific place, they've got everything you could imagine.

Although it's designed as a lifting device, I'd say they suggest not to use as a pulling device as the chain might get caught in the internals, causing possible damage.
For the price I'd say it was made O/S as the cost would be 3 times that, but made under their strict Q/C. I know Beaver Brand stuff is pretty good quality.

Ken, can you re read the instructions and see if you miss read them , if not can you quote the statement.

They should be able to be used for lifting and pulling , both actions that are required in rigging work.

Are you sure it just doesn't say must be used in a straight line.

I have used the tool (much higher capacity tool ,though) in a horizontal pull inside of clam shell ship unloader buckets.

The chain pull was placed across the diagonal of the bucket to facilitate dragging the diagonals back into specs after the operator(term used loosely here) had tried to bite a piece out of the side of the side while unloading.

The majority of the bucket shell corner welds where gouged out before this operation making the re alignment of the shell halves a relatively easy operation.

The chain outfeed had to be kept in light (hand) tension to prevent the links jamming in the mechanism.

Got one, but cant say I have tried to use it to pull something.Only used mine to load/unload lighter stuff like 3 KVA set into ute, so really pushed it too its max rating.So far am quite happy with it.
