Mounting my dawn 125 drill press vice
Hi,
I got my hands on a dawn 125 drill press vice to use with my drill press.
It is in great condition.
What I am not sure about is how to mount it to my drill table.
Here is a picture of the two.
What do you think?

Hi Brenton,
The way I'd go about it, is to find/get a bit of plate, 10 - 12 mm thick, the size of the table or a bit more, plus enough to put the centre of the drill bit with the fixed edge of the vise. Mark the centre holes of the slot, so that they intermix with the next hole, if the slot is 50 mm overall and it is 12 mm wide, the holes would be 38 mm centres, as one hole starts the next hole will take the bolt, theoretically you should be able to get 2 bolts in each slot. Thread them to suit the bolts to fit the slot. Mount the plate using the T slots in the table.

Vise mounting
Hi Brenton
I would either buy or make a couple of T nuts and make a couple of clamps. Then you can mount it anywhere on the table.

I think he means something like this.
The clamps can of course be as fancy as you like.
Cam locking T-bolts would be nice.

And there we have it. Another famous Donna Hay illustration!
Was that done in a studio Bob? I got the exact same vice but it does not look that good. Now I feel like crap and feel obligated to take it apart and lick it up on the sg! Nice jaws too. I got jaw envy too! Dam you.

Ha Ha! It only looks like that because the vice, clamps and table were all purchased new. Donna would be appalled if she saw the rest of the "studio" !

Dawn Vise Mount.
Hi Brenton,
Can't tell from the pic, but does your square table rotate on an arm, or is it fixed? If rotating, you can just drill the vise flange to align with your centre slot and use tee bolts and nuts shortened a little so that a workpiece will not catch them. I have my Dawn vise mounted thus on a circular table and can position any job under the drill by rotating the table and slewing the arm on the column. It's a neat simple 2 bolt mount and quick to remove for large jobs or machine cleanup. Regards,

Hi Guys,
All those lovely pictures of nice shiny tables with T slots and pretty hold down clamps. I'm starting to feel left out...
My FORBCO Star only has a pair of through slots and a hole in the middleBest Regards:
