9/16 blots and nuts?
Groovers, Is it possible to purchase 9/16 bolts? I have been searching the net and I am having no luck.
The Alfred Herbert drill has 9/16 holes to attach the top and bottom sections of the drill.

Hi Damien, I think that you'll find that it is a 1/2" bolt that is used in those holes. As you say it's a 9/16 hole, is it possible that it could be an 14mm bolt that is used. Bolts in the inch range go in 1/16 increments till 1/2 then it is 1/8 increments. Metrics go 1 mm increments till 8mm then 2 mm increments. The reason for the oversize hole is industrial tolerance, as it not a requirement for a close tolerance.

Automotive parts shops like autopro or autobarn should have them up to about 3.5"-4" long. They sell them in a blister pack of 3 or 4 (always less or more than you need). If no luck there try one of the fastener mobs like konnect or fasteners Australia, they will defiantly have them.

Yes 9/16 bolts exist, should be off the shelf items.... We had to get some some years back for head bolt replacements for a tractor.... No problems.... Then some years after that I had to get some 9mm bolts for head bolts on a kubota motor... 9mm is a standard metric thread... But no one stocked them... So much for metrication..

I was recently surprised to see the variety of imperial bolts kept in stock at my local Autobarn! They had just what I wanted for my 1954 Land Rover!
Bunnings also have a fair stock, but most of there stuff is likely made from butter.

My go to for less common bolts is Bolts & Industrial, they list 9/16" bolts. Closest store to the Sunshine Coast is Virginia, or they will post items.

OT I know
Gregory,
What a delight to experience your dulcet tones again. Seems like you have the generator now.
How's the house, and more importantly, how's the workshop coming along.

Greg, The minimum length would be 2 1/2" thanks, 3" would be better as then I could add some spring washers. Damien

Fat fingers?
Been reading this thread for the last few days, and have just realised the O.P is looking for 'blots' and nuts.
Funny how the mind reads what is meant, not what is typed.
