    Brian,

Are you still going with this grinder? I have just become an owner of one too - in very good condition, but does not have all the accessories.

Gday guys. I have picked up a very aimilar CC T&CG and have been restoring for weeks now. It is coming along and am now looking into the tooling. Most I have no idea what it is used for however some things I feel fairly confidant I can work out. I have the spindle attachment with the separate motor attached and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of collet that attachment takes. The external thread implies a collet cap however the draw bar implies something else (or both) any info would be greatly apreciated.

I only have one collet for the motorised work head on my CC Model D, don't know if its a standard or a special, haven't done any research.

Drawbar is 5/8" x 18, tail dia .747", big taper dia 1.222", small taper dia .793", taper length parallel to axis .9", overall length 2.74", 3 slots.

    Thanks Bob.
I have a feeling I will be making a collet or 2 in the future.

    HI Towelman,
I dont have the motorised head, and sadly I have no idea how to set things up.
I actually get good use using it as a simple sirface grinder, using several of the new strong button magnets to hold the job onto the table and taking very ver shallow cuts.
I'm just starting to reorganise the workshop and intend to rehome it in a corner where it will be more available for instant use.
Good luck with your new find.

Default CC model 4 spindle bearings

Does anyone have info about the spindle bearings in the CC model 4 grinder? The one I have seems to have been "modified" to take wheel bearings - tapered roller after some overheating issues. Were the original bearing plain bearings?

Since posting that I have found a bit of info from a previous post I had not seen before. I did show a photo of a spindle using angular contact bearings - but a comment stated they were probably a user replacement fro the original plain bearings.

The current tapered rollers are not satisfactory

    Thanks, Jon

I suspect it depends on when it was made.
Mine had plain bearings and I replaced them with angular contact bearings.
A friend near me has one that came with Deep groove ball bearings originally...
My decision to go with AC bearings was because I can adjust and control the axial preload with shims and a thread at one end of my spindle.... If your spindle has a thread at one end (to adjust the end float of whatever bearing was there before, than that's what I would suggest.
Having said all that, there is nothing wrong with taper roller bearings at all! Used in lots of machine tools. Wheel bearings may be a low quality end, but I don't really know that. The real issue with taper roller bearings is the sealing against dust. Because of their construction, that could be difficult to do on these grinders. If the previous owner has solved that well, you could stick to taper roller bearings.

    Cheers

I don't know if the housing has been machined to fit the current bearings (45.23 OD). Can you remember the type of AC bearings you installed ? (I cannot find any with 45.23 OD)

45.23mm is suspiciously close to 57/32" from an era when everything in Australia was still being made in imperial sizes.
My CC Eng TCG was originally a bronze bush version and was converted to angular contact bearings at some stage, possibly in the 50's from what the seller was saying.
I have no info on the bearings other than they were made in Echuca, which I thought was interesting.

Would it be easier to just say 1 25/32" or 1.781".

I'd guess it is for grinding tapered work.

    Hi Gavin.
The jig is for grinding a shaft, it can be either straight or taper. The jig allows for the taper angle to be set as one end has adjustment for that.

Some more detailed photos would help to positively identify it. It could be a tap sharpening attachment going by the cams and Vee slotted drive.
