Early Waldown Restoration
Started on the restoration of the benches waldown. Still haven't seen another exactly the same to go off but did find what looks like it in a McPhersons book.
Cleaned most of the grease and dirt off the paint. Pulled the major components off the pillar.
Following on someone else's thread I started with kerosene & 180 grit and worked up to 280 followed by some wax and a rub down.
Wasn't able to get all the pitting out some us just too deep & there are a few dingo. I stupid the highs off first, but the lows are still there unfortunately. They also stand out more now.
Did have an issue with my fixed steady which I'll post a thread on.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Could have been that I was the someone....
Turn the column so that the dents face the wall.
When I was in Melbourne on the weekend I visited my daughter's shared studio off Lygon Street. One of the artists there has a Waldown the same as yours complete with the intermediate pulley. I took a number of photos. I can post the photos here if you have any interest.
They have a similar vintage drill in one of the RMIT gold and silversmithing workshops. The cast nose cone guard has been replaced with a pressed metal belt guard.

Today's progress
I managed to get an original pulley. this is no longer stocked & has a 22mm bore, they now have 24mm, I got one of those as well for the motor. New woodruff key and nut fir the spindle. The pulley should be bored out 3mm deep to take the nut properly.
The current waldown T nuts didn't fit so I turned the ends down.
Spare spring for an 8SN, there are also a set of spare bolts for the vice handle.
Motor pulley. I kept two of the T bolts standard just in case.
NOS Vice made from parts. Waldown no longer make these they have a new design vice which is larger.
The bolts for the jaws are a fraction long and need to be trimmed down.
The sliding jaw is a reject. The hole isn't centred and lifts the end. I need to get it milled to a slight slot.
Now I just need a motor and paint.
It be great if someone can make me some hold downs for the vice. Drawings are in one of the other threads.
I have two 3phase waldown grinders, and I hope to sell one and get my $200 back and buy a vfd for the other since my shed doesn't have 3ph as we were told when we got the place.
I'll paint the grinder I'm keeping probably with the drill.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

For what I understood today, Waldown is no longer, Brobo-Waldown is no longer. The Brobo Group (owned by chinese??) The product is made in china & I saw the boxes, then basic assembly here and labelled made in Aust.
They also told me they had a heap of old waldown drills etc that went in the scrap bin and basically only support the 3M now.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

I contacted the seller and someone was already coming to look at it. So I planted the seed if the buyer only wants the grinder I will buy the stand!!!
Just got a messaged back they didn't want the stand do I want it. In case you didn't know that is a Waldown stand used on both grinders and drill presses!!!…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Here you go Dale.
Not my workshop so no apology for the surroundings. The final four photos are at RMIT showing the drill like yours perched on the tulip base along with a newer 8SN and a beautiful NH. You can compare the motors fitted to these more recent models in contrast to the motor on the older drill in the gold and silver shop. Waldown used CMC and TECO TEFC motors on the newer drills I have seen.*
I have an idea for the possible realignment of your vice jaw. I will have a look at mine and come up with bit of a scribble for you. It would involve bushing the sliding jaw.

* Dale asked about motors in a PM.

Some of those are screaming to be saved too
I don't think mine had the intermediate pulley ever fitted. It has a mushroom cap over the pillar. Looking at a chart you posted once the 8SN came in both 2 or 3 pulley configurations. Mine may just have been referred to as a 1/2 drill…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

It's weird. The beater unadorned Workmax drill (the donor) has an intermediate pulley. Photo 1 is the 3M, 2 is the Workmax - http://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...18#post1746218

Bob, did you notice in the photos you posted that although fitted, the intermediate pulley is not used? The belt goes straight past and the motor pulley has been flipped over.

I did Michael but only when I looked at them here.
Could be because belt repositioning isn't as easy on these machines as it is with your 2M and my 3.
