    Default Cogged belts - again

I have a cheap ( when I say cheap I mean Chinese...certainly wasnt cheap when I bought it tho.) drill press

It has M section vee belts and has always had vibrations.

I have just replaced the V belts with new M section (3 different sets) and although the vibrations have reduced with one set I am not satisfied with them...when running you can see them wobble in the pulley groove..and they are Gates!!

I have searched hi and low for equivalent cogged and found many sites in europe but cant get past shipping as they dont ship to australia.

Some aussie sites list them but do not stock them.

CBC and the like dont have (or bring) them in and had not heard of them

Kept searching and found Optibelt.com.au and as I knew from surfing the web that they make them in US etc I thought I'd ring...yes sir we have that size in stock but not the other, but can get it in from Germany...but only sell to our distributors...ie is distributor in Adelaide Belt and Hose (hadnt rang them even tho I have an account with them as I thought reply would be same as CBC..which it was...see below)

made the call and guess what...they had never even heard of them either ..as with others they kept confusing it with SPZ... I wanted ZX

But they are on the way...as soon as ABH place the order on Optibelt

Will post outcome if it stops or reduces vibs to acceptable level ...my level not some of you perfectionists levels'

Have you considered that the vibration might be coming from the pulleys themselves? It wouldn't be the first time on a Chinese machine that the pulleys are out of round, not concentric or out of balance.

Yes, but as the belt wobbles (does not seem to track smoothly) in the pulley (always at the same point in/on the belt, and not pulley, I am hoping that is main cause.
the belts although supposedly good quality seem to be thicker and not not true to shape in all parts hence the wobbles.

As I said above one set/pair seem better than the others,...hence why I am getting the cogged

If new belts dont stop it I will remove pulleys and trim...they have to be out some...they're chinese after all...if that doesnt work I will get rid of it and stick with the waldown only

mmm wonder if the spindle could be made to fit the little hispeed waldown???

I was fairly confident that you would have already checked the pulleys etc but thought I'd ask anyway. Speaking for myself, there's been occasions when I haven't been able to see the forest for the trees as they say
