    G'Day Fellas,
Over the years I have seen many posters come and go, it is now my time to move on, recently the question was posed "is there a good Chinese caliper", I responded with a (hopefully) even handed warts'n'all review of a mid price caliper, in return I was jumped on by an opinionated bigot who has no idea of my priorities or resources. Asking myself "do I need this" this simple answer is no, so fellas, goodbye and good luck.
    Regards,
    Martin

Toolman49, don't give up, your contributions are invaluable. Just take the abuse as tongue-in-cheek and carry on.

Would be sorry to see you go.
Hang around and read awhile, many of us have been there.

I only skimmed your post at the time, but just re-read that thread after your post, and didn't see you get "jumped on" by anyone, "opinionated bigot" or otherwise. In fact I didn't even see anyone referring to your post at all. Perhaps you thought somebody was addressing something to you when in fact they weren't addressing it at you at all?

Meanwhile if that's the attitude you have to members here, and you think it's fine to address others as "opinionated bigots". Yep, bye, and all the best for the future!

    Hi Martin,

I'm sorry to see anyone leave because they feel slighted or insulted. I think it's just the nature of internet forums for comments to be misunderstood, and misinterpreted, this forum is one of the most tolerant, helpful and friendly of all the metal working forums. Just about all the members here go out of their way to help each other and kick in when needed.

Stick around, sometimes you'll get good advice, sometimes not.. but it is always well intentioned.

Please give it another day before you make a final decision Martin.
I agree with Ken, Stuart and Ray. We have all been there before and the good guys 'do' outweigh the bad, especially on this forum.

No matter what forum/organisation you go to, you will find a similar type of persons DAMHIKT.
PLEASE do not go, as you have a lot of information to share and will be sorely missed.

Hi Toolman, Sleep on it, then make a decision. I must admit, I have never been attacked, or felt like I have been attacked, at least I don't think I have. but if ever I did, I have one thing that defends me from those that may be inclined to have a go and it is this: I am the boss of my shed. While I may ask for advice and sometimes even give it but in the end it's my shed, I'm the boss and if I like it then it good! End of story. I find that with that philosophy and attitude, I'm pretty much untouchable. Stick around buddy, cause your the boss! Simon

    Default C#!ne$e

It's the 'C' word. The 'C' word elicits that response every time. Unfortunately some just can't understand that not every hobbyist wants, needs or lusts after 'brandname tools, preferring instead to buy C#!ne$e tools. Just don't mention the 'C' word and she'll be sweet - or, you could mention it, and watch your sense of humour grow exponentially.

Personally I shall be happy to see him go.... I had not read the thread in question, but just read Toolman49's post and was outraged about this bit

No shade of pink is hideous...

I am all for using cheap chinese digital calipers... use them all the time and love them...

But hideous pink.. Pink is a lovely colour no matter the shade.... I need to take a bex and have a lie down after that.... Oh the humanity!!!

Pink is not even a real colour. It's just light red. Don't start making up colours just because it suites your lathe! Simon

Default Know how ya feel mate

Yeah, been in the same boat as you recently bloke, asked what i thought was an easy question and got trumped a few weeks back. I sat back and thought "why bother", this site is only for the most learned out there, asking any kind of question if thats the kind of answer you receive. What i get out of this site is lots of answers that others ask, prefer to sit on the fence mostly and view. I am staying, theres more to this forum then just the metal work side.

That's a real shame toolman, as far as I can remember you have been a valued forum member.
I got a bit narky in here one time, I just don't read that ones posts anymore.
If you are ever up my way and feel like shootin' the breeze give me a PM

It worries me when I read posts like these because this is one of the better forums out there I think and while there are a few spats here and there, on the whole it is pretty reasonable. That's not to say there are not a few jerks around who like tossing grenades in to stir the pot but as a whole I would not have said that people get jumped on if they have a reasonable point of view or opinion that can be supported.

I can't see any posts in the digital battery thread where anyone is having a go at Toolman49. There is a reference later to a Chinese POS but as Toolman is saying that his is reasonable then I would not have thought that is relevant.
DD, which was the post where you claimed to be trumped? I can't remember any - regardless, if any poster thinks that they are being unfairly targetted, a post can be reported.

    Michael
