Macson surface grinder, pics
Can anyone help me to put a value on this surface grinder. I have had it for a number of years and got a bigger one a couple of years ago so I do not use it anymore. I have someone interested in swapping it for some work and I want to make it is fair for everyone. The gib for the side movement of the table has lost the end piece that goes around the gib adjuster so sometimes that gib will jam when you move the table away from you, an easy fix really. Other that that it works fine. It has an eclipse magnet on it. What do you think itis worth? $500 or around that?

I tried to place a backdrop so you don't have to look at the mess in the background!Last edited by Burner; 26th Jul 2014 at 04:52 PM. Reason: added more information

Hi there, I'm semi seriously in the market for a surface grinder. I have been looking for a couple weeks now. There is another Macson SG on the market in QLD. Looks the same as yours, although perhaps with a better paint job? They want $1500 ONO MACSON SURFACE GRINDING MACHINE FOR SALE from Queensland Brisbane Metro @ Adpost.com Classifieds > Australia > #46 MACSON SURFACE GRINDING MACHINE FOR SALE from Queensland Brisbane Metro, free, australian, classified ad,classified ads, secondhand, second While they may be dreamimg, I would have thought you should get $500 easily if it's in good nic. Cheers, Simon

I paid $500 for my Power which looks to be a similar size. Given the condition that it was in I thought that a bit on the high side but yours looks cleaner so about $500 is probably a good starting point.
Simon - you know you want it...

I paid $58 for my non-working Power SG. It took time but little money to get it functional but I had to buy a magnetic chuck so all up I've got $400 sunk in it. The mag chuck on yours looks smaller than the 125 x 250 one I have. I'd say that $500 was a maximum price for yours. PDW

I should have expected such a comment….. Trouble maker!
I'm very busy with work etc. ATM so looking at an interstate machine is something I would rather avoid…… well atm anyway. There is a Ruberg on Grays that looks OK too, and a surface plate but they are both in Sydney. I'll keep looking. I'm not in a hurry.

$1500 would be dreaming!
Thanks everyone for your comments. It is always hard with these deals, as he is supplying labour so how hard does he work and how good is the job he has done? Probably good or I wouldn't have got him to do it in the first place I guess! I will get it sorted out this week and let you know the outcome.

I delivered the surface grinder today and Picked up what he had done for me and we are both happy with the deal. Thanks to the posters here for helping set a value. I am sure I got a fair amount of work done for the value of the machine. The main thing is we were both pleased and already started talking about the next deal! We also traded a small dividing head I had for a Nikken quick change collet chuck and a couple other arbours and lathe tools, a small air compressor and handed cash back and forth a couple times. Quite a good day and SWMBO is confused about the whole deal!!

Good work. If both parties are happy then that's all that matters! Simon
