Default Will there be another scraping class?

Looking through some older threads I found out there were some scraping classes run a few years ago, and I'm wondering if there are any plans to run another in the future as i am interested in leaning the art?

I'm also interested. Got one machine that needs scraping to get it functional, and a few with specific wear that would benefit from scraping.

The question arose again last year but not quite the number came forward to make up a class for Phil. Lets hope a few more are able to step up this time around, count me in again!

I participated in the second one. I'd be willing to help out on the 2 days on a future class purely to meet a few people.

Since Phil organised and ran it, perhaps you should PM Machtool and sound him out on the possibility of a future class, numbers permitting.

    Cheers,

I expressed interest in a class last year sometime, but as mentioned, the numbers were insufficient. Im still mad keen, ive been experimenting and developing some rudimentary idea of how to do it with some odds and ends Ive got at work, but id love some expert tutelidge.

It works out well for you. Thomastown Melbourne.

Ash has set the hook. It would be rude to invite you guys to Melbourne in the heart of winter. Can you get your heads together, and come up with a date in September or October, when the days are longer and warmer. Try and stay away from football grand finals etc, so that Airfares will be more available and cheaper. I think we stuffed up in 2011 and had it on Bathurst weekend.

I didn't think we would have enough numbers, but it sounds like we could get close. We need about 10 or more warm bodies to make it happen. You would want to budget around $400 bucks, $300 for an all weekend class, and $100 in materials. The cast iron practice piece was around $75 two years ago.

Lets have a head count, and I'll put a list together. And I'd seek permission of the forum for a "sticky" so we can get it organized.

    Regards Phil.

Default yes please and some questions

Depending upon the final date agreed upon I would like to participate - however my metalwork experience is almost zero - have owned a Hercus 9" for 6 months and thats it.

At the moment I am good for September/October

What tools would we need to bring ? What skills would be assumed/required prior to joining ? Have done no scraping ever but am interested. Would a total newb slow the class down ?

Any books/videos/tools we should get our hands on beforehand ?

Hopefully we can get the numbers needed. The only date in September/October that wouldn't work for me would be the 6th of September.

    Hi Phil,

Like I said, if I'm available on the eventual date, I'd be happy to come and help prepare food, cook, make coffee etc. etc. I can also bring a few clamps and my hand scraper that I made using one of your inserts and handle.

    Cheers,

    Simon

I have one question regarding the scrapping class.
I've explained to Sally my wife that I will properly being doing a scrapping class organized by the forum members.

O that's nice what is a scrapping class?

It's a class were we get to learn how to make a piece of metal really really flat by pushing a steel bar across it a good hundred or do times.

    Why blank stair.

So the question is do I try to explain further .
Or do I except that some activities I involve my self in are just weird maybe from a lamans(la woman point of view)
Or do I label my self eccentric.
    Or am I normal lol.
