HAUSER 3SM
With Thanks(and blame) to Eskimo I present my Hauser 3SM (it was sold as a 3SMO, but I'm pretty sure its not. Though on the + side it does have a Sony DRO)
As a 3SM its guaranteed(when new of course) within 0.003mm anywhere on the table(400*250mm travel)
As a 3SMO 0.002mm
As a 3SMO with DRO 0.002mm so take your pick lol*
I'd put a bid on it thinking "gee that would be cool". I think the only guy more surprised than me when I won was the seller. I thought I was going to have to find a box to hide it in but I fessed up...... she took it pretty bloody well considering!
I think its the smallest 1400kgs I've come across.
Time for coffee
Stuart
*for anyone that cares... the SM uses the leadscrew with automatic correction. the SMO (Optical) uses a separate scale so the leadscrew plays no part in accuracy.(as I understand it at this point.....there are a lot of different machines built over a lot of years so its a little hard to be sure about anything lol.

Hi Stuart,
Sweet looking machine, looks to be in fair condition... is that one of the types that are used in making optical equipment?
I was wondering what's going to be moved out to make room... ... but I daren't ask..

Hi Ray,
The flaking on the ways I can see still looks pretty good so fingers crossed.
Hi Simon RC
What cant it do!
Well ok I really dont know all the ins and outs of what it can do.
But for starters.
Here is a video of how it works(not the same machine)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWBObe76LDg
The grinding spindle is mounted in steplessly variable eccentric. Which along with wheel diameter gives the hole size.
So if you want two holes on dia, surface finish and center distance, this machine should get you close
It also has auto Z feed that can grind tapers up to 12degree.
One more picture for tonight.
Well I know where it came from lol It may not have done much work there. I went on a tour there about 30 years ago and they had all the gear they needed to expand production enormously "tomorrow", so had lots of gear that didnt get used often.

Hi Welder,
I'm not sure I understand the question. I assume you're talking about the jig grinders that the grinding head looks more like a boring facing head in a mill?(I think they are high speed heads*) The grinding spindle is built in on this machine.
*In the 100krpm+ range. The spindle speed on this machine is lower(I think). The seller couldn't give me a number but he has diamond wheels up to 3/4". so I would imagine them going over 100k..... but I've been wrong before.
Bryan,
Go sit in the corner, you're a very naughty boy.

Hi Stuart,
Nice machine. So its a jig grinder not a jig borer? Can it bore as well?

Yes grinder.
The specs on the two air spindles for this machine are 9000 to 51000rpm and 51000 to 80000rpm. (others I have seen go as high as 215krpm!)(current thinking is its still the slow one....but as my lazer tac only goes to 10krpm I'm not sure how to check)
Ok its an air spindle so I guess it will go as slow as I want..... it just wont do much.
So I might be able to drill a very small hole

The German word for 'Jig grinder' is 'Koordinatenschleifmaschine' (Co-ordinate grinder). That might help you find out more detail. German for 'Specifications' is 'Technische Daten'....
Here is one I found earlier: http://www.maschinensucher.de/ma2/bi...4109-1-de.htmlCheers, Joe
