Default Taper Pins and taper pin reamers

    Hi Guys,

I have a little job where I need to retain a sleeved fitting. It was previously retained with taper pins. I have not used them before. I've fitted the sleeve and I assume that I need to cross drill to the minor diameter of the taper pin, then ream the taper, then install the pin.

The pins I'll need are about 10mm long and 3 mm diameter. Does the pin come as stock lengths so you cut off the fitting section to install, or does it come as short sections? And how does the number system work with regards to diameter?

Have I got it right how you use them, ie. drill to minor diameter, ream, install taper pin that fits (cut from stock)?

    I appreciate the help.

    Hi,
Here is a link that gives you the sizes for imperial reamers. http://stanlok.com/Taper_Pin_Pages/t...n_reamers.html These are tapered at 1:48. Metric pins are 1:50. I have always just turned new pins to suit, normally from silver steel, but i know you can buy them too.

As far as drilling and reaming goes, how you describe it is how i do it.

    Cheers,
    Ewan

    Have you considered these
