BTW - when Bob came around this is what was on my bench.
It's definitely not for the faint hearted.
When I figure out what I'm doing I'll post some more info on it.

Oh Bob.... why oh why did you open the connections of the three red cables?
You KNOW what THEY are for..... You were supposed to look for and find the OTHER end of the coils, the thee wires WITHOUT cables going in...... and put some there.
I bet it's the fatter spagetti tube bent over the outside of the coils at about 2 O'clock in the last picture.....
Now you have to just go and close those three connections again and truss them up without wrecking anything.....

That's another motor I think? I agree with your suggestion that the fat wire bundle at 2 o'clock looks a possible candidate.

I thought Bob had made a mess off the little workhead motor.

OK Bob, check out the circled area in the workhead motor and see if the spot the arrow points at is a folded over open end of a fibre tuube tha has three smaller tubes going into it at the other end. It looks a likely candidate to me.

That's a biggish , about 300mm diameter, Italian double delta motor Bob was delving into when I dropped in.

I'll have a close look at the connections when the sun comes up. I'll also post some photos before I tuck in with the scalpel.

does it matter...both deserve the rewinders...just for the warranty bit...or if nothing else, if it fails, one can blame them!!

I doubt the word failure is even in both bobs' vocabulary.

Bob,
I see you have trued up the outside of the motor casing when you parted the end. Do you intend to machine a collar or are you going to turn up a new end and fit somehow?

Warranty? Have a look at the photos below. Any half decent motor rewinder would laugh at me if I took it in to them.

I found that motor on a heap of scrap metal, it had no fan and the rotor was not turning. It looked like a reasonably HD motor and I thought I might be able to at least get the bearings out of it. Just for fun I Meggered it and it was fine, opened it up (had to belt the rotor a couple of times with a wooden mallet to get it out). Bearings were fine and corrosion was all surface stuff. Put the rusty rotor on a lathe and sanded the rust off. Blew out the dust and reassembled, still Meggering OK, I added an external old 240V computer fan to it, connected it up and it runs fine. It's one of the quietest and coolest motors in my collection so it's sort of become a bit of a test motor.

Here I've added 3 wires to the common ∆ points and stitched it back up again - it really does feel like performing a medical operation.


And (with new camera battery charger operating) loosened bits and pieces HT siliconed into place.
It has obviously sat in a bath of rusty water for some time.
I'm not putting this motor on any machine, just using it as a bit of a test motor to try different things out
