Hi Woodfast, unfortunately your pictures are all well out of focus, and so it is near impossible to see any fine detail to help answer your question. It may not be so noticable when looking on a phone, but on a large screen, it actually looks worse when you click on a thumbnail to see the full sized image, than the thumbnail itself. Take some new photos and have another crack at it.

No idea when they were made but there's a set I believe is just like them, fifth item down on this page -

Woodfast hails from Perth, according to his details.
I do hope that Michaels dire warnings are not coming true at a faster than predicted time frame.
Maybe this is just the early stages.
Stay tuned for developments.
Dean
ps I am going to hide my cameras under the bed. Don't tell anybody.

They have definitely improved, but still look better in the thumbnails than in the full sized images on my iMac anyway. Woodfast, are you using a camera or perhaps a phone with a fairly unsophisticated camera in it. The photos all appear noisey, (the grainy look) so perhaps you could improve things with some diffuse lighting, like light coming through that white sheer material used as privacy curtains to let you see out into a brightly lit area, but stopped anyone seeing inside to an area with lower light levels. It looks to me that you need much more light for your photos, especially if the camera is only so-so. Having made those comments, which I hope you find helpful, those photos are much better than the first lot, and likely good enough for someone who knows their P&N tooling to identify their era of manufacture, but there is still room for improvement.
Just had another thought, it might pay to check that the lens is clean, think driving into the late afternoon sun with a dirty windscreen, compared to the same conditions and having a clean windscreen. There should be nice saturated colours, and no misty look like it was taken in fog. Regards,
Rob.
Apologies Woodfast, I completely missed your comment about not having a camera, only a webcam. Probably still worth using much brighter illumination, angled onto the tools, but not reflecting back into the webcam too much. Give its lens a clean and polish too before you try again, that's if you want to try it all again. All the best,
RG.

The thread pitch is correct for BSF, at least for the 5/8 die. I would guess that this is a very old set.
I have a standard P&N Whitworth set in a similar type wooden box. It only has the 1 die wrench, which is a normal 2 inch round. Is this the size of the round dies in this set?

Unfortunately, I can see a little rust. On the 3/4 tap, which is the only one I have not used and only on the top of it. The tap wrench is starting to go rusty. I have an identical wrench I have had for many years, which I use as it is easier to get at. This box sits across the rear of my metalwork cabinet, generally with the lid up. It will not fit down the side. I think I should oil everything and keep the lid closed.
This set was owned by my father. As far as I know it was bought before I was born. That makes it getting on for 60 years old at least.

The dies are not round they are two piece the idea behind that was if the thread was damaged you put the dies together in the holder, adjust and wind the die back to repair the thread they are great for this reason.

They may not be as old at some think....
I have got dies here of that design, probably from the 50's or 60's... Or 40's...
Although I guess that is old today....Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.
