Default SHELL TONNA OIL 27 in QLD

    Hi all,

I know the subject of lathe lubrication has been beaten to death here and on other forums, so it is not my intention to start another.

My HAFCO 12 x 36 recommends Shell Tonna 27 for the apron, so I decided to try and get some. Firstly, the Shell site lists a couple of Tonna type oils, but not 27.

Has anybody here tried to get the stuff, and know if there is another equivalent??

I am on the Sunshine coast and any leads as to where to get this oil would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Ned

    Hi,
Tonna 27 as you have noted is not coming up in searches . I rather suspect that it now a deleted product.
Tonna S3 M 68 comes up and has listed in its application as machine tool gear boxes and as a way oil.The down side is that its available only in 20 litre drums.

Castrol has Hyspin 32 in 5 litre bottles which is a better deal and does the job im my 12 x 36 lathe.

    Thanks Grahame,

Are you using it in both the spindle bearings and the apron gear box?

An equivalent to tonna 27 would be an ISO32 spindle or hydraulic oil....As Graham suggested Hyspin32 in five litre bottles would be what to get..

Mobil DTE Light would be another equivalent...
